Nick had just arrived at the Precinct, this morning he had found that Operations had been polite enough to replace his destroyed Toyota Land Cruiser with a blacked out Toyota 4Runner. The Grimm was grateful for a moment of convenience, no matter how simple it was. Nick saw Hank and made way to his to him, he wanted to discuss an important topic that was relevant to their partnership.

"Hey, finishing up your admission contract as CILESO's police liaison?"

"Yeah, who knew that helping an organization of supernatural warriors had so many benefits," said Hank, holding up the document for Nick to see. "I mean look at how good the dental is."

"You should see the Christmas bonuses, they're sick."

Hank's brow furrowed in curiosity

"How'd you know that?"

"Because they offered me a job as an investigative field agent, and I accepted."

"Wow, you serious?" Griffin was surprised, but he wasn't going to going to protest.

"Yeah, I figured that I'll be able to do more with them than I do here, so why not."

"Well, it will do you better than being a standard cop and you'll be learning better from your own kind."

"Yeah, anyway I'm just here to pick up my personal belongings. I also need to drop off my resignation in Renard's office before he gets here."

"I'll hand it in for you, in case the Captain tries to pull anything on you. Just collect your stuff and go before he gets here."

Nick nodded and handed Hank his resignation, as he did so the Grimm felt a weight lift and a new one drop.

...

East of the city near the woodland parts of Oregon was a Watcher holding facility, last night the prisoners from the capture mission were transported here for interrogation. So far they had plenty of questions and zero answers. Agents Goodward and Knights were overseeing the questioning and to say that they weren't happy didn't even begin to describe how ticked off they were.

One of the prisoners had attempted suicide with a poisonous needle he had hidden on his person. The medical team managed to save him and had kept the man sedated ever since. During the examination, they had found scars that piqued their interests; scars that didn't match any infliction that could have been caused by any Wesen or human attack whatsoever. These seemed to be calculated and precise, judging by the size, shape, and area of injury these scars were from a type of torture that none of the medics or agents had ever seen before.

Agent Knights pulled out her phone and called the Director.

"We've got a complication, you may want to bring in Donovan. No, the other one."

...

Veronica had just entered the complex, as she walked to her workstation she saw Nick moving into the desk neighboring hers.

"Hey, neighbor." Cheekily greeted the new guy.

"How are you doing, fresh meat?"

Both Grimms chuckled nostalgically, reminiscing in the old days. When they graduated from the academy the two had grown prone to a personal routine they had specifically created for themselves, they knew what type of coffee to bring the other without asking, Nick knew exactly what type of takeout Veronica liked, and she knew his favorite radio station and songs.

"Remember on our first month working together, the Lieutenant assigned us both to keep watch on a public indecency case." Said Veronica.

"I wish I didn't." chuckled Nick. "I still can't believe someone could be so pasty."

"Ha- the worst moment in my career."

"Well, for us a new start means new memories which means a whole new set of bizarre." said the male Grimm.

"I hope you mean that as a good thing."

Nick snickered as Veronica grinned with blatant cheekiness. Their moment of reverie came to an end once Veronica's phone rang. When she ended the call her expression was pure shell shock.

"What's going on?" asked Nick, not liking the look on his partner's face.

"Something weird is going on with the Darkspire prisoners, " hesitation laced her voice, fitting her expression. "They're bringing my father in on the case."

...

Renard had gotten word that Nick was back from CILESO, yet the detective was nowhere to be found. The captain called for one of the officers to bring him to his office, but instead, Hank Griffin walked in with a manila envelope.

"Captain, I heard that you're looking for Nick."

"Yes, could you please tell me where he is or-"

Hank simply tossed the envelope on the bastard's desk. Renard opened it; inside was a badge, sidearm, and a written statement of some sort with Nick's signature.

"Nick resigned, he accepted a position at CILESO as an investigator and field operative."

"Excuse me?" This did not sit well with Captain Renard and it showed.

"He made his choice clear and he wasn't going to change his mind."

The detective left, leaving Renard to mull over the situation.
