I stared at the beautiful heavens and sighed heavily. When I moved to the city I would never get to see the pearly white sphere known as the moon anymore.
It was at its peak tonight, the center of the sky, beaming happily in its place among the stars.
Tomorrow morning I, Madeline Foster, will be on a train to the big city.
It had taken a while for Mother to convince me to move out of my sanctuary in the country and get an apartment, to leave paradise behind. My passion has always been studying the patterns of the stars. They all had backgrounds and if you dug deep enough then you could find endless stories and facts about the Zodiacs and their world.
For my seventeenth birthday my parents bought me a telescope, noticing my interest in the stars. I couldn't believe it when I received it. My mother always said that I was her open book, she could read me very easily and both my parents somehow managed to guess what gift I wanted, they may have had help by the fact that I left wish lists all over the house. They would wind up being written down on the weirdest of places, one of which being the toilet role in our shared bathroom and the other being written on any spare note pad I could reach.
Of course it will be coming with me to the city. Even though it won't be much use, all I will see is smoke from factories and tall skyscrapers. Mother tried to convince me that there would be somewhere I could study, maybe a club. But I don't believe her, she knows the nearest patch of grass with a clear sighting of the sky was miles away and I wasn't sure my beat up old mini truck could make it.
A blinding light soared across the sky, evading everything in its path. I quickly scrambled up of the ground and plopped myself next to my telescope, placing my eye on the lens quickly and skillfully.
The meteor shower was tonight. That's why I refused to leave this place until tomorrow. I have seen many before but this one felt like a gift. A gift from my true home wishing me goodbye.
As the next comets flew by I settled back on my blanket, lying down and staring at the stars fly by.
