I glanced in the mirror once more, staring at my reflection as if daring a hair to just pop out of place so that I could smooth it back down again. I'm wearing a navy blue lace just-above-the-knee dress with ruffles hanging of the shoulders with the most gorgeous gem studded dark blue heels that compliment the outfit perfectly.
You maybe thinking, 'Emma. Why are you getting all dressed up, it's not a guy is it? Give me all the deets!!' But no, sorry to disappoint but that is no where near close to the correct answer, although I have noticed this guy called Ben and he's so cute and kind and......And never mind that! You see my mother has been planning this big fancy family reunion thing at the restaurant a few miles east from where I live, conveniently in the centre of all of our houses. Mum said that I could bring a plus one, I think she's getting her hopes up on a big white wedding like my sister had a few years ago with her husband Tom. They're going to have a child soon! How exciting, I'm going to be an aunt! Anyway, sorry mum, no one special coming with me today.
Dad emailed me the directions to the restaurant a few days ago thinking that, me being the girl that I am, would get lost and be very late, as usual. He's probably right, I'll still get lost even though I know where I'm going AND I have the directions. But that's just me!
I'm not sure who is actually invited except for the obvious immediate family like Mum, Dad, Stacy,Tom and Luke. But with mum in charge of the invites you never know who'll turn up, probably the whole childhood gang!

I quickly check my phone and find that it's 7:23. See I told you I'd find a way to be late. I wasn't bothered at first because the original time set was 8 but then I remembered the text Stacy sent me this morning saying that it was starting half an hour earlier. Damn it!

I quickly clasped my necklace around my neck, slipped on a matching watch and earrings, grabbed my keys and purse then strutted out of the house, checking the time on my phone once again.

I entered he restaurant only three and a half minutes late and everyone was already on their first round of drinks. I walked forward and saw that yes, practically everyone I knew was there, again. I walked over to the bar and ordered a cocktail, by the way I'm 26 so I am of age!
"Emma!" A voice screeched and I turned around to see my mother in a dazzling dark green dress that made her look half her age flanked by dad and my childhood best friend Macy.
"Mum, Dad! It's so good to see you!" I shouted taking a quick slurp out of my drink and then diving in for a hug. I closed my eyes for a brief moment to saver the moment but when I opened them my eyes focused and my whole body tensed.
Mike! Why are you here?!
That was when it all went black, my parents frantic voices drowned out by the silence of drifting into unconsciousness.
