I felt the cold sensation of the ice pack on my forehead as I slowly slipped back into consciousness.
"Emma?" My dad called, frantically shaking my shoulders, searching for signs of recognition.
"Mnnnnnhhh" I grumbled, trying to sit up but failing miserably as a wave of nausea rushes through my head. My head falls back and my father caught me and gently lowered me to a comfortable white pillow where I rested, recovering my balance.
"Take it easy, love." My mum says, passing me some water in a small kiddy cup. Not to be picky or anything but a kiddy cup? I mean like I'm 26 I think I put grew these quite a while back. Nether the less I took a sip and savored the ice cold feeling filling my throat.
As I start to hand my cup back to my parents I examine my surroundings and notice that I am still in the restaurant and that practically everyone there has stopped to see what all the commotions about, even people I don't even now.
I am laid down on the floor and have a carpet underneath my head to help with the dizziness.
"Hey, umm everyone," I say, speaking up a bit for the thirty or so people to hear me. "I'm sorry if I caused a bit of a commotion but I would hate to hold up your night! Go have fun!"
My parents and sister give each other hesitant looks so I answer for them. "Yes mum, dad you too!"
The worried look that had been plastered on their faces disappear as they recognize my usual stubbornness return.
"Only if you're sure, sweetie?" My Mum asks throwing a quick glance at all the laughing guests.
"Yes! Of you go! Bye bye!"
All three of them laugh and then get off of the soft carpet making their way back to the rest of the pack.
I smile to myself but that quickly vanished as I see a too familiar figure leaning against the doorframe holding a glass of champagne.

"You all right there Em?" mike asks, pulling a hand through his freshly cut honey tone hair.
I nod quickly and then turn away, not wanting to have to face the man stood in front of me.

"Oh come on!" He cries, throwing an exasperated hand into the air. " you can't still be mad by now!"
"Hmmm, let me think about that...." I reply snappily. "Yes I can."

I start to make my way up and make a dramatic exit but I once again fall backwards nearly knocking my head on a bar stool.
"Whoa there! Take it easy Emma! You'll end up getting yourself killed!" mike says, rushing forward to see if I'm ok.
"That's not for you to worry about now though is it?" I retorted quickly.

Hold up.
You probably want to know why I hate this man so much so here ya go....
So once upon a time when I was just turning 21 I met this too perfect guy called Mike. He was everything you could want in a man. Very handsome, smart, funny and caring. Well at least he was to begin with.
We started talking for a while and we decide to take things a bit further. So, Mike and me started dating. He was sweet and did some tiny stuff like holding open doors for me, it was looking good!
And then he asked me to move in with him, of course I said yes at the time but once we were safety settled in at a new place he started drinking and going out every night to the local bar.
One night he got so drunk that he brought home two girls, one on each arm, kicked me out of the apartment and then took all of my savings. He was gone the next day.

I was so embarrassed. I had to build myself up from there, I got a promotion and moved back in with my parents and told them everything.
I kind of went off the idea of men from there.

So now you know everything. Back to the present....

"Why are you here Mike?" I whisper, staring at the ground.
" to see you of course!" He said with a mischievous grin. "...And the fact that I got invited by Stacy's new hubby."
Damn I forgot they were childhood friends. I should have seen this coming. I should've been more prepared!
"Ok then." I say, taking a deep breath and getting up of the floor and reaching for my wine glass. "You can stay here as long as you leave me alone! Oh and by the way... I have a new man. Toodles!" Total lie.

I turn and did a little wave knowing that Mikes face would be shocked. His warm brown eyes would be cold and angry with a deep frown marked on his lips. I know his weakness and that was to say that he wasn't good enough, that he wasn't the best. It always has been and it always will.

I sashay my way back to see Hanna my best friend who I haven't seen for almost a year.
"Hey girl!" I say, giving her a hug, being careful not to get wine on neither mine or her dress.
She returns the gesture and we launch into a full in conversation on how she was doing in Australia nowadays with her boyfriend Kyle.

As the time past we got hungry and the long list of guests sat down to order. Me sat with Hanna on one side and my dad on the other. Unfortunately Mike was across from me, staring at me angrily until it was his turn to order.

This should be interesting.

I can't help but try to hide my smile.
