~Violet's POV~
When the bell rang at the end of the day, Luke got up and waited impatiently while I put my things in my bag. "So," I started nervously, "I, um..I have to stay a little bit late today." I said, anxiously twiddling my fingers as I looked at anywhere but Luke.
"How late?" He asked, sounding unhappy. I paused, "Two hours." I said quietly, causing him to groan in annoyance. "Are you fucking kidding me?" He snapped. I shook my head, "No. I told Mrs. Jackson I'd clean up both of the art rooms." I admitted. He sighed angrily, "What the hell did you do that for?!" He huffed.
I stood up, putting on my backpack. "You don't have to wait, though. I don't expect you to. I can just walk home after I finish." I assured, beginning to leave the classroom. I was surprised when he sighed quietly, "I'll wait. Michael would kill me if I didn't." He muttered. I smiled, closing the classroom door behind us as I headed towards the art rooms. "Thanks."
While I cleaned both of the rooms, Luke sat at teacher's desk, watching me clean. "This would go a lot faster if you helped me, you know." I said, and he nodded. "I know."
By the time I finished cleaning the rooms, around three hours had gone by and it was now 7 PM. I was sweating, honestly, from how hot it was, so I reached down and grabbed the bottom of my shirt, pulling it up. Luke let out a noise of surprise, "What the hell are you doing?" He asked as I pulled my shirt off, leaving me in a black tank top.
I gave him a weird look. "I'm sweaty." I shrugged, shoving my shirt into my backpack. I'd worn a black tank top beneath my shirt that day, because my shirt was a little see through. I put my backpack on and we quietly left the school.
Luke began driving, but I was a bit confused when he didn't take the right turn to my house. "Where are we going? My house is that way." I frowned, pointing behind us. "I know. My mom wants me to get some stuff from the store." He muttered.
We went to the store and I left my bag in his car, following him inside. He got whatever it was he needed and then we left, driving towards my house. We were nearly there when the engine began sputtering slightly, causing Luke to grow alarmed. "Fuck, really? Now?" He muttered. When the car started slowing, Luke groaned. "You're fucking kidding me!" He exclaimed as the car rolled to a stop.
I stayed quiet for a second, "Now what?" I asked. He looked over at me, "How far are we from your house by foot?" He asked, ignoring my question. I shrugged, "Maybe five minutes." I said. He began dialing a number on his phone and asked me for the street we were on. I looked out the window and read off the street to him, listening as he asked whoever was on the other end to come get his "piece of shit car" and fix it.
"Okay," He sighed, "You're going to have to walk home the rest of the way." He said, looking over at me as he hung up his phone. I cocked my head to the side, "What about you?" I frowned. He stared at me for a second, "Nobody can get my car until tomorrow, so I have to walk, too." He explained.
"How far?" I asked. Luke paused, thinking about it, "At least an hour." He shrugged, like it was nothing.
I then offered something that I, realistically, probably shouldn't have. "You could always just stay at my house for tonight and get your car tomorrow." I said, regretting it the second I said it. Luke didn't respond for a moment, looking a bit surprised. I was, too, when he shrugged, "Yeah, okay." He agreed, stepping out of the car.
I scrambled out as well and we began the walk to my house, now in the dark. It started raining hard before we got to my house, but neither of us seemed to mind it. I unlocked the front door when we got there, water dripping off us and onto my porch.
I pushed the door open and flicked the lights on, entering as Luke softly brushed past me when I opened the door more. I closed and locked the door, kicking my shoes off by the front door. "You can put your shoes there, if you like." I said, pointing to where I'd left mine. He took his off, and when I realized we were getting water on my mom's floors, I gasped.
"Upstairs! Get upstairs!" I exclaimed, shoving him towards the stairs. Luke stumbled in surprise but hurried up the stairs anyways with me following closely behind. I lead him into the guest bedroom across from my room, "You can stay in here. There's a bathroom over there if you want to shower." I said, and then I paused.
I hurried off to the guest bedroom at the end of the hallway, bursting in and digging through the dresser drawers. I found a pack of new boxers, which my mom always kept in here in case my brother ever came over unexpectedly. I brought a pair back to Luke, "They're not used. Promise." I assured, noticing the look on his face.
"We probably have something you could sleep in." I muttered, turning around and heading back into the guest bedroom at the end of the hallway. I found a pair of grey sweatpants and a black t-shirt, bringing them back to Luke. I frowned when I saw he wasn't where I'd left him and looked around, but he wasn't there.
"Luke?" I called, turning around. I saw my door standing open and entered, only to see Luke looking around my room. "Luke? What are you doing?" I asked, pulling him out of my room and pushing him back into the guest bedroom he was in. "Looking." He shrugged.
I handed him the clothes, "You can wear these, if you want." I said, "I'm going to shower, though."
I headed back into my bedroom and picked out some undergarments and pajamas before heading into my bathroom and starting the shower. I showered quickly and changed, leaving the bathroom as I wrapped my hair up in a towel to dry. I looked up and screamed when I saw Luke just lounging out on my bed, typing on his phone. "Jesus Christ!" I exclaimed.
"That's quite a compliment." He remarked.
I glared at him, "You scared me!" I huffed, looking down at the groceries he had set on my bedroom floor. "Oh. You probably need somewhere to put that stuff at." I muttered, picking them up and heading downstairs. I quickly put the cold things into the fridge and left everything else out on the counter.
I turned around and Luke was leaned against the wall, allowing me to notice he had showered and changed, but wasn't wearing a shirt. I cleared my throat, trying to not look at his torso, "Why aren't you wearing a shirt?" I asked, raising a brow. He shrugged. I rolled my eyes and looked through the fridge, "We can just order food, if you want." I offered, closing the fridge when I saw we had nothing.
We decided on Chinese food and I called the order in quickly before hanging up the phone. When the food arrived, I paid the guy and gave Luke his food as I sat down on the couch, scooting his towards him.
My phone began ringing and I grabbed it off the table, seeing Michael was calling me. I put my food down and left the room as I answered it, "Hey." I said. I heard him cough, "Hey, sorry. Did you get home okay?" He asked. I leaned against the kitchen counter, "Yeah, but Luke's car broke down. He's staying the night." I explained. I could practically hear his surprise in the silence that followed.
"He's...what?" He muttered, and I laughed. "I know. I thought that when he agreed, too." I admitted. Mikey started coughing again and I frowned, "Man, you sound like shit." I said simply. He scoffed, "Thanks. Really, so nice of you." He said sarcastically.
We talked for a little while more before bidding our goodbyes and I hung up the phone, heading back into the living room. Luke was eating his food, and I grabbed the remote, turning on the TV and putting on Supernatural. I began eating my food and when I finished, I pulled my art assignment out of my backpack.
It was due tomorrow and I hadn't finished it yet, which meant I had to do it on my own time. The assignment was to take a page out of a dictionary with the assigned first letter she gave each student, pick a word on that page, and draw it on the page. She assigned me the letter 'i.' Naturally, I picked the word invertebrate and was drawing a starfish.
"What are you doing?" Luke asked, and I swatted him away. "Minding my own business. You should try it sometime." I said, adding in the details to the starfish.
"Is that for art?" He continued, and I nodded, trying to focus. "Damn, you're slow. It's due tomorrow, you know." He noted. I mocked a surprised gasp, "Really?! Wow! Wow! I had no idea." I exclaimed. "Really, I was just finishing it right now because I thought it was due next week. Of course I know it's due tomorrow." I shook my head, continuing with my work.
"Well, gee." He muttered. "Someone's sassy."
