I HAVE ONE MISSION BEFORE I LEAVE THIS PLACE.

That thought was the only thing on my mind as I walked through the streets of Wall Sina's richest areas. All around me, I heard the sounds of children playing, of calls from the street vendors, but more importantly, the whispers of those wondering why a blonde girl was traveling dressed in a hoodie.

Their society was strange, the government was just strange in general. It was pretty much required to wear formal, or at least nice looking clothes inside of Wall Sina at all times when one left their house. I couldn't help but wonder what life would've been like if I'd been raised in Wall Sina.

No, Annie. Such thinking is forbidden.

In my home outside of the walls, everyone hated the government created inside of the walls. For good reason, too. He'd trapped thousands of people inside of three walls for their own protection, apparently telling them all that the outside world was covered in untouchable floods. I sneer at the thought. People had to be rather dumb to think that. Reiner had told me many times that lack of exposure to the real world wasn't being dumb, it was ignorance and naivety, but not because they were dumb. I didn't believe that, but I wouldn't disagree with Reiner Braun.

Reiner was a tall, burly blonde boy who had a serious expression on his face at practically all times. He was generally very easy to work with, however, and I appreciated that. He was practically my brother at this point- if older brothers were considered annoying, overprotective brutes who helped you learn to kill. My other mentor, Bertolt Hoover, was less of a leader than Reiner. Even though we were all more or less the same age, Reiner had always been a natural leader while Bertolt and I stuck to the shadows. Bertolt was a tall, lanky brunette male who always seemed nervous. Honestly, it doesn't work with the rest of us. His nervousness gives himself away.

What I would give to be with them right now.

Even though this thought ran through my head sporadically, I pushed it down again and again. I had a mission to carry out, and the success of the rebellion was picked based on how well I performed my duty. If I failed, the rebellion failed, and I'd probably be killed if I wasn't tortured by the government first.

I looked dirty enough already compared to the rest of the citizens. My blonde hair was slicked into a messy bun, my white hoodie was getting dirty with soil, but my ice blue eyes were what gave me away. I looked too hopeful to be someone from another Wall section. Maybe from Wall Maria sneaking into Wall Rose, but not from one wall to Wall Sina. Wall Sina, if you were caught, and you were from another section that wasn't Wall Sina, execution was in your future. Although, that was the point.

The problem right now was that my eyes gave me away. If the Military Police were to catch me right now, they'd let me go, which was the opposite of what I needed right now. Well, that depends, actually. If they were smart, I'd be locked in the deepest dungeon and never allowed to see the sun again. But since the majority of the government wasn't privy to a lot of the important information, I'd be let go.

"What the hell is going on here?"

Ah, there it was. People who thought they could defy the law. Although, they were perfect for what I needed to accomplish today. I let my eyes shift up to a tall man with a long nose and an average sized woman with short brown hair. I had to resist a smirk from growing on my face.

"What do you mean?" I asked, crossing my arms and narrowing my icy blue eyes. I was aware that one of the laws stated that talking back badly to another was okay if the other person started it. What a childish society. At least I didn't have to pretend to be kind.

"Aren't you aware we have to dress up?" The woman smirked, and I couldn't help but notice that her posture was rather stiff, as unmovable as a board. I decided to refer to her as Stiff. "It is socially unacceptable to wear such clothes as your own outside."

"And it's socially unacceptable for you to talk to me in such a way," I replied emotionlessly, meeting her eyes defiantly. "Apologize."

"Apologize!?" Stiff squeaked, her shoulders hunching uncomfortably. She marched forward, slapping me across the face. Although it didn't hurt, I flinched as if it had. I cradled my cheek, acting as if I was in pain, and smirked while I was under coverage. She had practically sentenced herself to death. "I will never apologize!"

I was about to turn to leave when the tall man grabbed my shoulders. I had to force myself to not shove him off and take him down. He threw me to the ground, and I crumpled, hoping it was convincing enough to make it look like it hurt.

"Don't ever talk to people above you like that," Stiff sneered down at me. The more I looked at her, the more I disliked how she looked. Her face was too long, her eyes too small, and her bottom lip was thin while the top was full. "Learn your place."

The two left, and I was about to get up when someone called out to me.

"Hello? Are you alright?"

Hey everyone! I hope you're all enjoying it so far :) I'm really proud of this one!
