"ARMIN, YOU'RE DOING WHAT?"

Okay, yes, the plan sounded crazy. Really, it was irrational. Looking back on it, even I knew that as I walked to school with Eren and Mikasa. I knew that I could trust my best friends with my secret. As they stared at me in disbelief, I really did have to take a moment to question why the hell I had helped her. But then it was replaced with the obvious. Why would I leave someone who was clearly suffering?

"She looked like she was dying!" I protested as they stared at me with accusing eyes. "I couldn't just stand by and let other people criticize her for what she was wearing. Would you have left someone in need!?"

"Wait, hold up. What was she wearing?" Even questioned, an intense expression on his features. I sighed, knowing that I had divulged more information than I had planned.

"She looked like she was from one of the outer walls, okay?" I ignored to mention how her features were too bright to be from Wall Rose and Maria. I ran a hand through my blonde hair. It was getting a little too long for my liking, it was starting to come to my shoulders. "I don't know, I couldn't let her sit there all helpless looking..."

"From the outer walls!?" Mikasa asked in a hushed voice. She glanced around nervously, gesturing for them to stop talking. "That's impossible. No way. Just because someone is dirty doesn't mean they are from another wall. It was raining earlier yesterday, they were probably just stuck in there."

I could take a hint, so I shut my mouth. Mikasa always was overly cautious when it came to security; she liked to talk about important things only in the safety of their homes. Wall hopping was illegal, and Mikasa was here trying to save me from my word vomit. The conversation then switched to more topical interests; Eren boasted about how he had surpassed Jean, his rival. Mikasa merely listened, and I pretended I was fully invested in the conversation.

We got to the school, and we all headed to our class. Meanwhile, I couldn't stop thinking about Annie.

Helpless looking...Yeah. But her stance gives me opposite vibes. If I hadn't met her on the streets like that, i would have assumed she knew how to fight.

Maybe that's why she wanted to join the military? She was still pretty petite, so I could just be making things up. Her personality was the opposite of a fighter, anyways.

Well, at least from what I had seen at the time.

Once the educational part of class was over, I ran over to the administrative office. The woman inside raised her brow when she saw me. Her name was Marlene Williams, and she was rather friendly, if a little strict.

"What can I help you with?"

"I have a friend who wants to enroll," I said simply. It wasn't like she could say no; the military was open at any time, to anyone.

"Name? Hair color, eye color?"

"Annie," It was in that moment that I realized I didn't know her last name, or really, anything about her. "Uh, I only met her recently. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She's friendly?"

"Blue eyes, blonde hair?" Miss Williams mused, a slight smirk on her face. "Is her last name Arlert by chance? Do you have some sort of secret sister we didn't know about?"

"What? Oh, no," I blushed slightly as she laughed. I hadn't really recognized the slight resemblance we bore to each other. "I'm not sure what her last name is. You can ask her once she comes. She can start, right?"

"Of course!" Miss Williams nodded, an ecstatic look on her face. "She can start tomorrow. Have her come in early so I can get her fitted with a uniform and everything. It's a good time for Annie to start, we'll be doing the annual combination with the other walls. You're aware we have to lower our expectations for that, so..."

Right. I forgot about the upcoming unification ceremony. It was to remind us of the walls being created to protect us from the water outside, and that we were all combined as a military. Still, it was quite clear that those in wall Sina were trained better than the others.

"Perfect!" I exclaimed, blissfully cheerful. I had no idea on what was to come. "Oh! I've got to get outside, they're working on some Omni-Directional Movement Gear maneuvers! I can't afford to slack off on that."

"Good luck, Armin!" She smiled as I stood. "I know you'll do great."

I hurriedly grabbed my stuff, rushing so that Mr. Shadis wouldn't yell at me for being late. He hated me because I wasn't physically strong. I thanked her and left the room, focusing only on the task ahead of me.

After all, I can't help Annie if I don't have a grasp on anything!

oh my gosh
