"Shhhh guys be quiet." A whispered voice says. Sierra?
"I can't see because it is so dark." Another voice says. Spencer?
Thud.
"Hey, stop pushing me." The first voice says.
"What the fuck," I say while reaching for my lamp.
"Guys, she's awake. We woke her up." A newer voice says. Adelaide?
All of a sudden five girls are singing Happy Birthday. Adelaide is holding a cake, Robin is holding her phone on top with a candle flame on it, and every other girl is holding a little gift. I look at all my friends, looking exhausted but stayed awake till midnight to sing me happy birthday.
When they finish Robin holds up her phone with a candle on it. "We aren't allowed to have open flames in the building so this is all we could come up with. So blow out your candle." I blow on the phone and Robin turns off her phone to make the flame dissapear. We all laugh and cheer.
"So, what about Ms. Park?" I ask.
"Oh we have something else planned for her," Logan says.
"You know I have told you guys to call me Adelaide."
"Yeah, but we didn't meet you on a plane like Willow did. It feels weird to call you by your first name." We all laugh.
"Okay guys, let's head back to bed that way we can have at least 6 hours of sleep," Sierra announces. "Happy birthday, Willow. And happy birthday to you also, Miss Park."
"Thank you Sierra," Adelaide says while holding the door open for the three girls that are not my roommate. "Sweet dreams you two."
"Oh my god y'all are something," I shale my head.
"Yeah, but you love us." Logan smiles at me and shrugs.
"I don't know what I did to deserve you guys."
"We are also pretty lucky to have met you. Especially me." I have such amazing friends. "But I am going to sleep. I was the person in charge of waking everyone up."
"Alright, goodnight Logan."
I wake up to my phone ringing. I see that the caller ID is my mom and I grin and answer right away. "Hi mom!"
"Hello my beautiful adult! I am sorry but I can only talk for a few no utes because I have a meeting I need to get to. But I really wanted to tell you hapoy birthday!"
"Thank you mom."
"So how is your special day going" you probably just woke up but you never know."
"Oh mom it started off amazing," I smile to myself. "My friends made a cake and they all woke me up at midnight to sing happy birthday. It was so great."
"I am so happy that you have friends. And I am glad that you are enjoying yourself."
"Honestly, I didn't expect to but I am really loving it here."
"So," I continue. I debate if I should ask about my dad. "You should get to your meeting. I also need to get ready for school."
"Alright sweetheart. Have a great day!"
I hang up and head to the bathroom to shower.
I can't believe I was going to ask her about dad. There's no point. If he is able to not talk to me for a month straight, what makes me think he will tell me happy birthday. It's not like his only child is turning eighteen today.
But, I should stop thinking about him. Today is my day. And I shouldn't think about things that make me unhappy. I should appreciate all the amazing people I have around me. My mom has called mealmost every day since I left. Adelaide has just been amazing. Logan, Logan is so brave. Sierra is just so kind and thoughtful. Robin has the best sense of humour. And Spencer, despite how shy she is, she can be the sweetest person on the planet. I truly did not think I would like it here, but it ended up being the best thing to ever happen to me.
