As nervous as I was to tell Lydia, I think it is one of the most relieving things I have ever done.

I don't know why I didn't tell her, nor talk to her since I left. I think it was out of fear. She knows me so well and there is no lying to her.

"So, out of all the girls here volunteering, do any of them catch your eye?" Lydia leans over and whispers in my ear.

"Lydia!" I exclaim, giving her a shocked look.

Nobody has come up to the counter for a plate in half an hour so we are just waiting to serve.

She shrugs her shoulders. "I am just curious. I'll help set you up with someone."

I roll my eyes. "Ummmmm. Long distance isn't my sort of thing."

"Fine," she says. "But don't say I didn't help."

We are quiet for a few more seconds.

"Do you fancy anyone in California?" She asks.

"Lydia!" I exclaim again, but this time I feel my face heating up.

"Aha! You're blushing!" She points at my face. "Tell me about her."

"Lydia, no." I shake my head.

"C'mon," she says leaning in. "I gotta know who my girl is crushing on."

"It's just someone." I walk to the oven and bring more rolls over to the serving area.

"Okayyyyy. But tell me about her."

"Lydia," I put the rolls in the bowl. "I wasn't even planning on telling you today. So what makes you think I am going to tell you about the person I like?"

"Because you know who I am as a person."

"Whatever." I chuckle and roll my eyes.

A person comes up and we serve them their food.

"So tell me," Lydia says right when they walk away.

"Fine."

Lydia smiles and claps her hands.

"We have a lot in common, we both are very into our faith, she loves music, and she loves kids. She is also just, so kind and sweet and so supportive. And just, really, really, really pretty."

I imagine Adelaide's face and I realize how much i really miss her. Not entirely realizing it till now.

I look over At Lydia when I am done describing Adelaide and see her smiling.

"What?" I ask.

"You're So cute when you have a crush."

I push her arm. "Oh shut up."

Three hours later the luncheon is over and the tables and chairs are put away. We served a max of 700 today. More than we have served in recent years.

"Where's Miss Winnie the Pooh at?" I hear someone call.

I immediately recognize that voice.

"Sam?" I look at Lydia in shock to see her grinning.

"SAM!" I run out of Lydia's office and throught the kitchen to the dining room. I run straight to him and give him a hug.

"Why didn't you tell Lydia or I you were coming back for Thanksgiving?" He asked, seriousness on his face.

"And why didn't you ask for my blessing when you proposed?" I say with the same seriousness, my hands on my hips, one eyebrow raised.

"Fine," Sam walks over to Lydia and whispers something.

Lydia takes off her ring and hands it to Sam. Sam walks over to me.

"Okay. I plan to propose to Lydia and with this ring. What do you say?" He says. Me laughing.

"Hmmmm. I don't know. You promise to give her feet rubs after a long day of standing up and cooking? And to listen to her craziness when I am not here?"

Sam looks over at her. "Always."

"Alright, your good, big guy." I pat his back and he walks back over to Lydia.

He gets on one knee and holds up the ring. "Lydia, I love you. And I promise I will give you foot massages after a long day of standing and cooking and to listen to your craziness when Willow is not here. Always and forever. Will you marry me?"

Lydia looks at Me. She holds up a thumbs up and then a thumbs down. I hold up a thumbs up in return.

"Yeah, I guess. Why not."

Sam puts the ring om her finger again and they kiss.

"Alright ya love birds, I need to tell you something."

They look at my questioningly.

I walk over and put my hands on theur shoulders. "I will be home for Thanksgiving."

"What?" Lydia says.

"No! Really?" Sam says at the same time as Lydia.

We all laugh and have a group hug.

"So how are you doing pooh?"

That is my nickname from Sam. He knows how much I love Winnie the Pooh. And my nickname for him is "big guy" because he is a foot and a half taller than I am.

"I'm doing alright. Happy to see everyone."

"We're all happy to see you also. We have all missed you. How's California? Is it hot?"

"Actually, it isn't bad." I laugh. "In August it was dreadful but slowly it got colder. During fall it was colder than I expected."

"Wow! Lydia and I will have to visit!"

"Yes!" I exclaim. "I would love that! However, there isn't much room in my dorm. I'm not sure my roommate will appreciate a 6'5" male sleeping on our floor."

Sam chuckles. "Well, tell your roommate I said 'whatever.' But seriously, we'll have to come. For a concert or something."

"I woukd appreciate that."

I hear my mom call my name.

"Whelp. I gotta go. But we have to mert up before I leave next Monday!"

"Yes!" Lydia says. "I'll text you!"

"Okay! Bye guys!" I wave and walk away.

I just love the relationship Willow has between Sam and Lydia. It is like the relationship I have with my friend and her husband.
