11. Past

"I asked you something sweetheart. Answer me before I lose patience." I glare at him.

His eyes dance with amusement. "What is it that you are finding so amusing? Please enlighten me." I furrow my eyebrows at him. His anger has tremendously dropped and there isn't any hint of it anymore.

"Well?" I push him again and his smile dissapears.

He shifts uncomfortably under my scrutiny. "Uh, Lexi, I am afraid my answers won't suffice at the moment. But once we reach home I promise I will explain everything to you. But only if you promise not to get mad at me after that." I raise an eyebrow at him.

"First, we don't live together, so home is two different places for us. Second, if you know me well enough Dan, you are smarter than to want me to promise that."

He chuckles. "First, you are going to live in my marvelous habitat for tonight, if you want your answers and second, of course I am smarter than you."

I sigh. "Don't give me your sass right now. I am too tired for it. And if am going to stay with you, dad's going to be worried. I must be home. Oh and by the way, I have a better habitat than you."

"Lexi, don't give me that crap. For God's sake, you were the one hanging out with those punks. And even better, you were alone between ten or more dangerous people. God knows what would have happened if I didn't reach in time. And for your information, I have already informed dad that you will be staying with me tonight."

When did he even call dad? God he's really getting on my nerves.
"First stop annoying God for his sake. And more importantly, what makes you think that you can even control me by making decisions for me?"

"Sweetheart, if I weren't making those legitimate decisions for you, then you would have been in real trouble right now. You should thank me for practically covering for you."

"Stop throwing the same fucking crap in my face! Those were just a bunch of punks. I could have handled them myself. Nobody asked you to be my knight in shining armor." I huff in annoyance.

"Okay. Calm down. You can handle anything, happy? But just one thing, those are dangerous people. Promise me you'll stay away and not go all crazy for vengeance." He is suspiciously calm. I wonder what is going on.

"I don't do that 'promise' shit, dude, you know that." Not after Sam. My subconscious adds. Yes, not after I broke my last promise.

"Earth to Lexi?" Daniel snaps his fingers in front of my face. "Anything wrong?" I shake my head at him, not only as a answer to his question but also to shake the thoughts of past from my head.

Before he could pry anymore, I continue, "So I was wondering, how did you know I was here? Because I didn't until I reached there."

He shrugs. "I have sources."

I roll my eyes at him. "You and your stalking tendencies. You didn't hire anyone else to keep an eye on me again, did you?"

"Maybe or maybe not."

I roll my eyes at him, third time in the day. "I can take care of myself. You know how much...?" He cuts me off, "Why didn't I see you in school today?"

Crap. "Uh... I had a accident and unfortunately spent half of the day in nurse's office."

"How?"

"I had another temper issue with the new student and later felt guilty about it. So in the very stupid moment I tried to pick up the shards of tiny glass and cut myself." I look at him to capture his reaction. "And you know right, what happens when I see blood?" He nods. "And yeah, therefore I blacked out. The student was really kind and carried me to the nurse office. But he really tried getting close and as you know, I don't do close strangers so I decided to show him his place. I am really pathetic that way, ain't I?" I cover my face with my hands in exasperation.
