Chapter Twenty Seven
The vampire must not have been able to smell us before because of the amount of people in the room, but now that I touched him, he could. I didn't think twice. I pushed Amilia in front of me and told her to run. I knew we wouldn't be able to take him on. If all three of us were sober then maybe, but not with them drunk and me not fully trained.

I ran with her, picking up as much of Selene's weight as I could. She ran, but stumbled too much to keep up with me on her own. I heard him push people out of the way to try to catch up with us. I tried to weave in and out of people so that he would lose our scent.

"What's going on," Selene questioned, her voice coming out groggy.

Hopefully this means she's slowly getting sobered up. We could use her brain right now.

"Run now, questions later," I informed her.

I could see Amilia getting tired, but I kept pushing her on. I'm barely breaking a sweat, thanks to Saxon's extensive training. The thought of Saxon made my heart sink. He is going to be so pissed. This was a huge mistake.

I didn't think about the other species that may be out on a saturday night to go clubbing. Didn't think about the fact that they probably would not be on good terms with someone of another species. I didn't think at all, it seems.

We finally made it out of the club, and running became easier. The streets have people milling about, but not nearly as many as there were when we got here. Definitely not enough to hide us when the vampire eventually reaches us.

"What do we do," I asked Amilia, running in pace with her.

She shook her head. "We run like hell and pray to God that we make it to the beach before he does."

I nodded and took off, running faster than I ever have before. Amilia grabbed onto Selene, taking some of the weight off of me. It made us both faster than it would have been if only one of us held her. We reached the beach in no time, and hoped the vampire didn't track our scent.

We dropped Selene, allowing her to sit in the sand and puke. Amilia walked over to me, now completely sober. "It doesn't seem like the water wraith is here yet."

I nodded, biting my lip. "She isn't due to be here for another 7 minutes. I don't think we have that long."

Amilia took a deep breath, fear clear in her eyes. "I have never fought a vampire before. I heard their strength and speed are unlike that of any other creature, beside's the werewolves. And that their bite is poisonous to fae."

I shuttered, not liking the sound of that. I pushed the thoughts away and turned to her, my eyes serious. "We can't use our powers, because there are humans around. But if he finds us, we will do what we can to hold him off until the water wraith comes. Everything is going to be fine."

I added the last part when I saw how scared she got at the possibility of having to fight him. We waited the next few minutes in silence, practically holding our breaths. After five minutes and no sign of him, we started to relax.

Selene lay in the sand, groaning. "Why did I drink so much?"

Amilia laughed. "You're the one who said only losers wouldn't get shit faced tonight."

Selene shook her head and groaned again. "I never said that."

"You seem like the type that would," a voice drawled casually.

My whole body tensed as I turned around. At the top of the stairs to the beach, staring down at us, was the vampire from earlier.

Selene sat up, then held her head in regret. Amilia and I walked slowly in front of Selene, making a protective stance. The vampire laughed.
