Chapter Twenty Four
Lily and Liam didn't come to my room tonight, which works out since we decided to have a girls night. They could have joined too, of course, but it's just a little easier to talk about the things we are currently talking about without them around."So Amilia," I began, trailing off to get her attention.
"Hmm," she questioned as she looked up from painting her toes.
"You and Cameron seem to have a bond."
The nail polish bottle dropped from her hand at my words. I used my powers to catch it before it could fall on the floor, laughing as I did so. "Looks like there is something there."
Amilia huffed, her face going red, as she snatched the nail polish bottle from the air. "There is no Cameron and me. He is a self righteous pig and I would never be caught dead with him."
Despite her words, I could feel the slight quiver in her voice. She's not the best liar in the world. "Whatever you say."
"I'm serious," Amilia huffed. Then she tried to change the subject. "What about you and Saxon?"
Selene wasn't really paying attention before, but at the sound of Saxon's name, her ears perked up. "Ooh, yes. What's going on between you two?"
I sighed and leaned against my bed. "Absolutely nothing. And that might be the problem. He's trying so hard to make me like him, but there's just nothing there. No... spark."
I trailed off lamely, realizing how stupid I sounded. Amilia nodded as if she understood but Selene merely rolled her eyes.
"Sweetie, you're a princess. You don't get to marry for the 'spark'. You're lucky Saxon is the guy they want you to be with, and not some unattractive asshole. Saxon is a great guy, you should be grateful," Selene pointed out, a bit defensively.
I nodded, agreeing that it could be worse. "I know that. Which is why I wish I liked him. I just don't."
Amilia shrugged. "You practically just met him. Give it time. Spend more time together maybe. I'm sure eventually, after spending so much time together, there will be something there."
That's a good idea. I've only known him a few weeks. It would probably do me some good to spend time with him without Rowan around. Maybe Rowan was blocking any feelings I could have possessed for Saxon. I'm sure he can do that.
"You're right, Mil. I probably just need to spend more time with him that's all," I stated, more confidently than I felt.
Selene sighed. "As fun as gossiping and doing girly things is, we need a proper girls night. A night away from royal stuff, and fae stuff really."
I grinned, liking the sound of that. "Maybe we could plan a day to venture into the human world. Their clubs are to die for. And you'd be surprised how attractive human boys can be sometimes-"
Amilia cut me off, shaking her head profusely. "Are you kidding? It's forbidden to leave the fae realm. We would get in so much trouble."
"Come on, it would be so fun," Selene whined, but we both knew getting through to Amilia was not an option.
Amilia huffed. "No way. Not an option."
Selene and I gave each other a sidelong glance. We'll let Amilia win this time. But she will crack eventually. In a few months, we'll be at that human bar with no trouble at all.
"Hey guys?"
Both girls looked in my direction.
"Last night, I saw something weird. I saw Caroline and Saxon's dad. Caroline looked pretty sick, and Saxon's dad was being pretty rough with her."
