You Wouldn't!

"Ymir, come eat with me." Jake said as he made breakfast and I turned to look at him for a moment. He had on a "kiss the chef" apron and his hair was tired back with a few strands hanging out. His smile was genuine and he radiated happiness. How could a monster hold so much happiness knowing what chaos he spreads at night?

"OK." I stated simply before heading to the table. I would do everything he said to keep him from getting upset because I don't want to die and he could kill me easily. I took a seat in the middle of the table and he told me to move. "Oh no, Ymir you sit here." He placed a plate at the end of the table and I sighed before getting up and moving to the other seat.

"You're really making sit at the end of the table? There's no one else here." I laughed and he placed a napkin in the collar of his shirt.

"Well, I didn't think you'd want to sit next to me so I'd like for you to sit directly across from me. Its just a great view."

The smirk that played on his lips made me want to smack him, but... He was right, I couldn't sit near him.

"That's true enough, I guess... Thank you for the food." He nodded to my thanking him and I thought about Talyn as I started eating. She got to go home safely and she has people guarding her. She stops by here regularly since I've been here for about a month and I couldn't love her more! Jake insists on home cooked meals but he doesn't really know how to cook and he won't allow me to unless he's directly next to me so Talyn brings me diner foods and candy. Speaking of that, I really really need some chocolate right now.

"Jake?"

"Yes?"

"Could you get me some chocolate?"

He paused in the middle of bringing food to his mouth and laughed. "Did you really just ask me for chocolate?!" His laughing started to get louder and I sat there stoically even though I wanted to punch him in the jaw.

"Yes, I'm really craving it and I can't leave, per your words, so I need you to get it!" He wiped a tear from his eye and nodded. "Yeah, I'll uh, get you some chocolate. Give me a sec." Wind rushed through the penthouse and dried out my eyes so I had to close and rub them and when I looked up he had three chocolate bars and was handing them down to me with a smile.

I took them and continued to eat breakfast before breaking into a Snickers wrapper. "You weren't lying when you said you were craving chocolate, I'll have to stock up on some for you." He took my plate and I allowed myself to give a small smile before delving back into the chocolate.

"Seriously, you enrolled  at our school?" Jake took a seat next to me in me and Talyn's Marine Biology class. He had on some thick bifocals and with khakis and a plaid flannel shirt. His backpack had one strap and hung from his left shoulder to his right hip.

"What, no! I've been going here." He taunted and Talyn & I sighed. The lesson went on forever but it wasn't all bad because the next few classes we'd be working with actual animals!!! We'd also be observing & testing their habitats to see if conditions are actually suitable for long-term survival. Talyn and I waited for Jake outside while he talked with the professor. Soon, he came bounding happily out of the class and ran up to me before he seemed to remember something and stopped a few feet from me.

"Ymir, Talyn, funny seeing you guys here." He joked and Talyn thumped him. "Cut the crap. What are you doing here?!" She whisper-yelled and he rubbed his arm as if that actually hurt.

"Well, waiting for you guys outside was no fun. So I compelled my way into the class." His eyes flashed red and Talyn got distracted. "Woah, you've gotta teach me that!" She screamed excitedly and he shook his head.

"Vampires only sweetie." He laughed and Talyn looked defeated. "Oh yeah! Ymir, would you and Talyn accompany me to a ceremony this evening? I promise it would be amazing!"

I looked at Talyn & she nodded yes ravenously so I agreed. "Wait, you used to wait for me outside the entire time I was in class?"

"Yep, gotta make sure you're safe at all times even if I have to do it myself."

"Adam?!" He was dressed up in a cherry tux with a dark rose in his jacket. His hair was slicked back and a bright smile. He was getting everyone happily with a champagne glass in his hand. Talyn & I matched with Jake, an ocean blue crusted with white streaks. Her dress was beautiful, the suit I was in was terrible though but I didn't want to object and upset Jake. "Oooh, Adam over there looking like a snack!"

I elbowed her and she laughed. "Oh right, I forgot that we don't like him." She said and I nodded. "Exactly." I said sternly before looking around. Jake had disappeared so we mingled with all these fancy people and I eventually ended up talking to Adam.

"So, your new guy brought you here? But you never wanted to come to any of these events with me." He said with a hint of jealousy. We started to dance around the floor but continued talking.

"When you said come with you to parties I didn't think you meant ones like these. And even then I probably never would've come, I didn't-" I was forced roughly away from Adam. The world went silent & I couldn't see. When I regained my vision, I saw Jake and Adam arguing before he pulled me off to the side and into a solitary room. I stood out of his reach and braced myself against the wall. My hearing came back and he was yelling at me.

"-Embarrass me like that ever again. You are mine. If you ever get close to any man like that again... You won't like the outcome. And if I ever see you even in the same vicinity of that grimy idiot again, I'll rip out his heart and feed it to you on the spot." And with those sinister words, he left me alone in the dimly lit room clutching my wrist as the newly formed bruise started to ache.
