********Flashaback********

"Either you Stab him or I shoot you both." There was a gun at my head and a knife in my hand. My boyfriend of two years, Tate, was on the ground holding his leg. He was shot when we tried to make our getaway from this crazy masked man that snuck up on us out here in the forest. "Do what I fucking say!" He hit me and I could feel the blood start to run down the back of my head. "You got three seconds to make a choice. Three... Two... One-" I took that chance to swirl around and stab him. One gunshot went off but it missed me so I continued to stab him, over and over and over again until his hands lay limp in the mud.

"Tate I-" I turned and set my eyes on him but he wasn't sitting up anymore, he was lying down. I called out to him but he didn't move. I stood and that's when I saw it... the gaping hole between Tate's eyes. A scream burst from me as I realized that he was gone forever. I heard footsteps but I didn't look up to see them, I couldn't open my eyes anymore, I couldn't stand anymore either and I felt myself falling to the floor. Darkness swallowed me and I didn't want it to ever let go.

********End of Flashback********

"You didn't sleep last night, why?" Jake asked as he rolled on his side to face me. "Oh I was just thinking about some things." He raised an eyebrow and I shook my head. "It's nothing, what are we doing today?" I sat up and stretched before calling for Kara. She walked in the room moments later and told us both good morning.

"Could you find Talyn and bring her to me please?" I asked and she nodded. "Yes I can, I'll be right back with her." And with that, she left. "Look at who's taking control." Jake joked and I chuckled. "We're the heads of this bloodline aren't we? I might as well get right to work. Let's have waffles for breakfast! Wait don't you just drink blood?" He shook his head and lead me to a closet so we could pick out what to wear. "We only need blood to survive but we can eat other things if we want. And I love waffles!" He chose a plain black T-shirt and black pants so I chose the same.

"So, why the urgent need for Talyn?" He asked and I told him that I had some important stuff to ask her. "We need to have a best friend talk so that I can figure what to do next." I explained and he asked why I couldn't just talk to him. "There's always things that you shouldn't talk about with your lover. This is one of those things that only a best friend can understand." He decided to back off after that answer and a knock came at the door. Before Jake could say anything, I spoke.

"Enter." I said and Kara walked in with Talyn in tow. "Thanks, can you also get us some waffles for breakfast please?"

"Actually don't worry about that, it's already on the way." Jake interjected and I shrugged. "Oh, then that's all for now. Thank you." She bowed and exited. I gave Talyn a hug and we immediately started talking about how nice this castle was. "Oh sorry, I forgot that we were about to have breakfast. Wanna talk after?" I asked and she nodded. "Definitely, just call for me. Please excuse me, Master Ymir, Master Jak'al." She left as the platter of food was brought in and Jake and I started to eat in silence. "Hmm... Would you rather I call you Jak'al over Jake now??"

"Nah, I like Jake better. I noticed the way you've been acting, you don't have to change anything, just be you." He said and I laughed. "I'm not changing anything, just trying to get used to this."

"Good. Can you pass the syrup?"

"So you do like him?"

"Yeah but I also am very afraid of him. And I don't like that he's a killer. I mean, he actually murders people."

"So have I... Are you debating our friendship?" Her face showed pain and it created a knot in my stomach.

"No, never."

"Then why question him? He is literally bound by some ancient deity to love you wholeheartedly and unconditionally. You'll never find someone else like that in the world. So, I think it's a good idea to give him an honest chance to show you that he is the one for you."

"Ok ok, thanks. I just needed to make sure I wasn't dumb. I did like him a lot before I knew about the vampire thing and he seems to still be that person more or less. And it's been a year and a half since we met and he still hasn't tried to eat, kill, or entice me so I'm glad. Well, except for that whole window situation but that's another story. But really, thank you so much for helping me."

"Always." She said and we hugged. "Welp, I'm gonna go get ready for the hunt. See you tonight?" She asked and I nodded. She then disappeared and I was left in the garden alone. I looked at all the different things that were growing here; fruits, vegetables, flowers, vines. It was all so beautiful.

"Excuse me, Master Ymir?" I raised my gaze to find the man that was on me when I was smothered in poop. "Yes?" He smiled brightly and stood. "I am nobleman Niman Veaux, please follow me."

"Ok, where are we going?"

"I cannot say because I do not know."

I raised an eyebrow but still followed as he lead the way. We walked until we came across a large door with the symbol of a stake on it. "Enter." Flowed a voice from inside the dark room as the doors slid open. I braced myself before stepping into the room and falling prey to the nothingness on the inside.
