What If I Did

"I-" I was afraid, afraid to say the wrong thing. So I said what he wanted to hear. "...Ok, I'll try." I said and he smiled nervously. He reached for my hair and I closed my eyes but felt nothing. I opened them and he was across the room with his nose pinched.

"I'm sorry, I just couldn't handle the stench anymore. Kara!" I sniffed myself while he screamed the name of someone. I nearly vomited when my nose picked up on the scent, it was the gargoyle poop! "Show Ymir to a hot bath please. Go and freshen up, I'll have some clothes for you when you return." He said and I nodded before leaving with the girl who came through the door at the sound of her name. We walked for a few minutes before she spoke to me. "Oh uh, excuse my rudeness sir. I am Kara and I will be your shadow from now on. Feel free to call on me at any moment as I will always be within range whenever master Jak'al is not. And, it's an honor to meet you!" She seemed more cheery than all the others I've met and she seems young too. Maybe she's new, like me.

"It's fine and I'm Ymir. It's nice to meet you too and feel free to ask the same if me since we're going to be spending a lot of time together." She nodded and turned down a busy hall. The others had not noticed us so the crowd stayed bustling. Kara bowed for a moment before asking to be excused.

"Uh sure, go ahead." I said and she turned around towards the crowd. She raised one foot slightly before stomping and shaking the entire corridor. The crowd quickly filed into two lines on opposite sides of the hallway.

"Next time any of you stand in master Ymir's way as if you rank higher than he does I shall gouge out your still hearts and feed them to you. Now, stand aside as our master continues towards his destination." Kara went from bubbly and cute to dark and twisted as she cleared the way and it reminded me of Jake so much that my stomach started to hurt. She turned back to me with that playful expression.

"There you are master, I have cleared your path. Also, please inform me if any covenant does not clear the floor for you and I will deal with them accordingly." I nodded slowly before striding down the hall and past the others. I finally made it to the bath and reached for the door.

"Oh master, that one isn't for you." She said innocently.

"Oh sorry." She immediately dropped to one knee. "Please sir, do not apologize to me, you have done no wrong. It is I that has done wrong by not remembering that you are new to the covenant! I will open the doors for you and please forgive me for not informing you!" She stood, walked past the door, and stopped at a wall. She placed both hands on it and pushed. It slid onwards and revealed a beautiful giant bath with pillars and statues the pour more water. There was a beautiful crystal ceiling and floor so it all looked as if the water was floating and the room was disconnected from earth. You could see clouds everywhere in the room as if it were in the sky which was no doubt designed like this to give you a sense of comfort and solace.

"I cannot enter these chambers so I will be just outside if you need anything. The room is mystical so just ask and it will provide. Have a nice bath!" I thanked her and went inside. The door closed after I entered so I was completely alone. I took off my clothes and placed them near the edge of the bath. I saw showers in a corner of the room so I made my way over to one and showered before heading to the bath to soak. I bathed once more and called out to Kara.

Her voice flowed from outside the door and I wondered how I could still hear her. "I'm ready to leave, where are the towels?" I asked and she told me to ask the room. "Um, may I have a towel?" One appeared just above me and I dried off. I finished just as the door opened and Jake entered. "Here, we are going to bed so actual clothes aren't needed." He handed me a pink silk robe and turned around as I dressed in it.

"I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you picked this color."

"And you'd be correct." He chuckled a little before guiding me to another room. The people in the halls all scattered to get out of our way. I couldn't help but notice how tall he was now that he was standing up straight, he had to be over 6'4 in height. He held so much pride that he wanted to show his people a strong leader so he walked as tall as possible when in front of them. So maybe I should as well, if I'm going to be helping rule over this place until I can get away then I should walk just as tall as he does. I straightened my back and held my composure with a determined face. We walked through the halls together like two bold heroes on their way to a battle they knew they'd win easily.

When we reached the room, I was tired. The walk was long so my feet were starting to hurt and my back was aching from being held like that for so long. I crawled into the bed and he asked if I was really going to lie with him. "Why not? You are my beloved right?" He smiled before climbing into the bed and getting under the covers. We laid together until he fell asleep and I stared at the ceiling.

What if I actually gave Jake a chance? I mean, give up luxury and power for a stupid life of struggling and working as a store clerk? I'd have to be dumb to pick that life but I don't want to die. But there's still a chance that I could be killed even after he leaves me alone so maybe sticking with the clan of super-powerful vampires is the right decision. But Jake kills without mercy... But it's not like I haven't killed before.
