"So" I mumbled awkwardly, not knowing what I could possibly discuss with an eight year old.
"You didn't answer my question earlier."
I internally groaned, not knowing how to reply.
"Do you love my brother?" She repeated, not letting the topic go.
"I don't know," my voice was barely above a whisper.
"Yes you do."
Her gaze was scrutinizing and I couldn't help but to raise my brows.
"For an eight year old you're quite sassy, but smart."
She flashed a toothy grin, nodding her approval.
"I know."
An amused smile spread across my face at her bluntness.
"So why don't you talk to the other girls."
Her grin instantly vanished, the air growing thick.
"They don't like me." She simply shrugged although I could sense a comletely different tone behind her voice.
"Come on Alexandra. You can talk to me." I lightly bumped her shoulder using my fist playfully in an attempt to lighten the mood a bit.
"I love this orphonage with all my heart." She mumbled, seeming to have a mental debate.
I gasped, only now realising where I was.
How could i not have noticed this was an orphonage.
Alexandra is an orphan.
But why?
"But I would love to have a family alot more." She continued, fiddling with her little fingers as we sat near the stairs trying to get comfortable.
I smiled sadly nodding in understanding.
"I remember things." She whispered sadly.
I looked into her ocean blue eyes and saw terror.
She was terrified.
On instinct I wrapped her small, fragile body in my arms in an attempt to provide comfort.
"I try to forget but I can't. I just want Alec. He is my family, and now you are too." She beamed, wrapping her arms around my neck pulling me in a tight hug.
She looked into my eyes, passing her thumb on my cheek.
Only then had I noticed the single tear that escaped.
"I'll always be here no matter what." I reassured grabbing her small hands in mine.
"Alexandra?" I called, unsure of my current thoughts.
She gave her full attention at the mention of her name.
"What exactly do you remember?"
"Everything." She whispered, face contorted into one of pain.
Alec's POV
This felt like evesdropping but I am one to care less.
My sister was hurting.
She remembered everything we went through before she was brought to this home.
But it was my only option. There was no one I could carry her to.
My mom and I don't have the best relationship but we're working on it.
