Chapter 10: What was Missing

The flicker of the fire from the Furnace danced across Yuki's face. The thought of losing Kaname to the Furnace whirled in her head. She had loved Kaname ever since he saved her from being attacked by a vampire all those years ago. Now, seeing him ready to sacrifice himself for the fate of vampires and hunters alike, she could no longer keep it inside. Tears started rolling down her face. She felt a warm hand on her shoulder. "Zero?" She asked faintly. "Of course." He answered back. "I asked him to come." Said Kaname as he touched Yuki's face.

"Kaname..." She said as she touched her hand to his. "There has to be another way! I just can't lose you!" Yuki screamed as she fell to her knees. "Yuki... it has to be this way." Said Kaname as he knelt down to take her in his arms. She thought of how this was the last time she would ever feel his arms around her. Her tears stained Kaname's jacket. Kaname motioned for Zero to join them. Zero knelt down beside the two Purebloods. "I may not be here with you, but in my absence, I want you two to be together." Said Kaname as he pulled Zero close.

"I trust Zero to keep you safe. You love each other." Said Kaname as he smiled. "Yes, but I love you too Kaname!" Screamed Yuki. "Yes. I know. I have always loved you, Yuki." Said Kaname as he put Yuki's hand in Zero's. "Thank you for giving me a new reason to live, and for letting me love you, and I'm sorry I couldn't always be there for you." Said Kaname as he stood to face the Furnace. Zero wrapped his arms around Yuki, her tears still falling. Kaname then ripped his heart out, and let it be consumed by the Furnace. "Kaname!!!" Yuki yelled as Kaname fell to his knees.

Yuki and Zero rushed to Kaname's side. "In just a few minutes, my body will stop moving." Whispered Kaname. "Zero, I am trusting you with the person most precious to me. Protect her." Said Kaname as he began to feel his body stiffen. "Yuki, continue to be exactly who you are, full of light and love." Kaname said as he used the last of his strength to touch her porcelain cheek one last time. "I promise I will protect her." Said Zero as he put his hand on Kaname's head. "Kaname... a part of you will always be with me." Said Yuki as she kissed his cheek. Kaname's eyes began to close, seeing Yuki with Zero gave him the peace he desired after fulfilling his promise.

My long journey has come to an end....

Kaname's body was placed inside an ice coffin in a secret basement of the association. Hanabusa Aido was working diligently in the hopes of finding a cure to turn vampires into humans. Him and Yori were going to be married and so much was changing. "Five months have passed since then." Said Yuki as she stared up at the man in the ice coffin. "Thanks to him, the anti vampire weapons have regained their strength." Said Zero as he put his hand on Yuki's shoulder. Yuki's eyes began to glow red, desiring his blood. Yuki pinned Zero to the ground as her fangs pierced his flesh.

What is this feeling???
"I sense two heartbeats from within you." Said Zero. Yuki held her belly. "From inside me, there's another." She said as she smiled.
