The fall colors Thomas walked his dog through were gorgeous, and he was lost in the reds and browns and yellows. The tiny German Shepard puppy chased fallen leaves blowing in the autumn wind and the ones underfoot crunched as Thomas walked over them. He observed his surroundings with honey brown eyes; some houses already had pumpkins and halloween decorations despite it only being early October. He had just moved into the neighborhood with Kitty and he already loved it.

They took a left into the dog park, and Thomas' puppy began to bound ahead, kicking up leaves.

"Kitty!" Thomas wasn't able to hold the leash tight enough, and Kitty went running toward another dog a few meters away.

The little Shepard tripped over her own feet, as she was only a few months old, and went slamming into the Golden Retriever. Thomas covered his mouth in shock, but the older dog only jumped a little, turned to Kitty, and sniffed her gently.

Thomas heard a laugh, and turned to see a man, about his age, walking towards him. He was pale, and as he came closer, Thomas could see freckles dotting his nose. His grey sweater was a bit too big for his small frame, and his hands were in his pockets. His blond hair was like a halo around his head, falling into beautiful dark eyes. Thomas was awe-struck, and didn't realize he was staring until the man stopped beside him.

"Is the puppy yours?"

Thomas shook his head and snapped out of his daze, "pardon?"

"The puppy, is she yours? She's adorable." The man smiled at the two dogs, and Thomas tried not to become weak in the knees at his accent.

"Yeah, Kitty. She's... a handful," Thomas laughed. "Is the Golden yours?"

"Yessir, her name's Halloween, cause that's when we got her." He smiled.

"Cute!" Thomas returned the smile. "'S good they're getting along," he watched Kitty race around Halloween.

"Yeah, but it's a tad strange," the blond bit his lip. "Hallie's thirteen, and doesn't usually like puppies."

"Well, maybe we're lucky then," Thomas grinned and held out his hand, "I'm Thomas."

"Nice to meet ya, Tommy. I'm Newt," Newt took his hand and shook it. They stared at each other for a few moments before blushing and looking away.

"I haven't seen you around, d'ya live nearby?" Newt looked back up again, trying to keep the conversation going so he wouldn't miss his chance.

"Yeah, I just moved into an apartment building a few blocks down."

"No fucking way," Newt's mouth dropped open. "I just got a new neighbor in my building, what one do you live in?"

Thomas told him, and Newt gasped in delight. "Tommy, we're next door neighbors!"

"We're definitely lucky, then." Thomas grinned at Newt, watching the wind blow around his blond halo. They heard a yip, and both men turned to see Kitty pawing at Hallie's belly.

"Kit, no!" Thomas started to go get the puppy, but Newt grabbed his hand.

"Leave them, they're having fun." Newt smiled the sweetest smile Thomas ever saw, and the brunet hoped that Newt thought his cheeks were pink because of the wind. He let out a soft 'okay', but didn't move his hand from Newt's.

Then, it was like a switch flipped in Thomas' brain, and he gasped. "Oh, fuck me!"

"Maybe later?" Newt winked and Thomas snorted. "What's wrong, love?"

"Do you know what time it is?" Thomas dropped Newt's hand to search for his phone. "I'm supposed to help my friend get ready for her date-"

"It's four thirty-six."

"Thanks, and... oh shit, fuck! Motherfucker, I left my phone at home."

Newt found Thomas' panic quite cute; the way he messed his dark brown hair and how he got all flustered in the search for his phone. "Look, I should probably go too, so I'll walk you home. Sound good?"

Thomas let out a sigh and called for his puppy. Newt whistled for Halloween and she trotted over, too. "Thanks, Newt."

"Anytime, love."

They talked the whole way home about anything and everything; their families, music, interests, conspiracies about aliens (Newt was a non-believer, Thomas was determined to convince him). They discovered that they were pretty much total opposites, but they fit like puzzle pieces.

Hallie didn't need a leash, being a well trained good girl, whereas Kitty pulled amd tugged and strained against hers. She almost got hit by a car chasing a leaf, twice.

"Having fun there, Tommy?"

"Haha, very funny, Newt."

They got to the apartments, stopping outside their doors, which happened to be right across from each other.

"Well love, looks like this is goodbye."

"Newt," Thomas laughed. "We live across from each other. You can come see me anytime!"

Newt chuckled. "Can i get your number too? For... in case i need extra sugar or something."

Thomas' grin reached his ears. "Sure, babe."

Newt's smile matched his, and they exchanged numbers. From inside Thomas' apartment, they heard a male voice and then a female.

"Tom? Get your ass in here, Aris and I are waiting!"

Kitty barked in reply; Thomas rolled his eyes and smiled apologetically. "That's my friend, Teresa. She's... a pain in the ass sometimes."

Newt snorted. "Tell me about it."

"I guess I'd better go," Thomas bit his lip and looked back at his apartment, then at Newt. He leaned in and kissed Newt on the cheek, ever so gently. After a few seconds, he pulled away. "Bye, babe."

Thomas turned and left, patting Hallie and then entering his apartment with Kitty bouncing at his side. Newt vaguely saw him go, but was too busy holding his cheek in shock, for he had just been touched by an angel. Hallie wagged her tail at him, eyed shining like she knew.

"Bye, love."
