I was sitting on a hard plastic bench, a bottle of gatorade clenched in my hand, and watching the trains wizz by at the station. To be completely honest, I wasn't ready to go back to New York yet. It's kind of like I'm leaving a difficult problem to grow to the size of Jupiter. Maybe I shoud take a celibacy path? Did you know that being in celibacy for five weeks straight is like being sexually unactive for over three hundred years? Probably Hugh Hefner's worst nightmare.
"Reese?" I looked up from my berry gatorade and came face-to-face with Ms. Pilsbury.
"Um, hi Ms. P. How's it going?" I said to her.
"I'm fine. What're you doing here? Shouldn't you be in New York?" she asked.
"Yeah I guess but uh...I don't think I'm ready to go back to New York yet." I replied. Ms. P shrugged and sat down next to me.
"Why not?" she asked.
"Because I made the mistake of opening myself up to somebody and-and entering into this relationship that in the back of my brain I knew was going to end in total tragedy." I replied.
"Oh...I'm so sorry Reese. Did he break your heart?" she asked.
"Actually the other way around. I broke his." I replied.
"Really? Wow, to be honest you've never struck me as that type of person." she said.
"I'm going to take that a compliment. I do love this boy but...I can't be with him." I said.
"Well if you love him than...why not?" she asked.
"Because an aqquaintance of his threatened me with this boy's secret. I wasn't about to let him be humiliated with this. I just had to do what was right." I replied.
"Does-does he know the reason you had to break-up?" she asked.
"No." I muttered. Ms. P sighed.
"Reese you are a beautiful, smart, respectful young woman who has such a bright future ahead of her. But, from what I know about you...you fight for who and what you love. And you know I believe that if you really love this boy, you will overcome this, but he needs to be able to trust you. And if you're keeping secrets like this, he will move on with his life...without you in it." she said. I gave her a look.
"You're a school counsellor, you're talking like a therapist." I replied.
"I'm a two-way street. But I have a proposal for you. Why don't you come back and help out at McKinely. Ever since Finn left, Will has been needing a bit of help with the glee club for Nationals." she said.
"Really? You're offering me a job?" I asked her.
"Just until you feel comfortable enough to head back to New York." she said. I cracked a smile.
"I would love that, thanks Ms. P." I said.
"Of course, and call me Emma. You're not one of my students anymore." she replied.
"No, I can't get used to that."
