Day turned to night and Remi's father was finally home. She could hear her mother talking to her father, warning him that she was upset with him, very upset with him. "Remington Ashton Owens! Get your tail in here!" he boomed.
Remi snarled as she left her room, her features were slowly disappearing back into her body, but that didn't mean she wasn't a monster anymore, "I'm mad at you, you can't be mad at me," she commented.
Mr. Owens narrowed his eyes to his daughter, "I am mad at you because you yelled at your mother," he said. He looked over to his wife, who seemed to be holding her emotions together very well.
"Both of you lied to me! You are the one who determined not to tell me that Shiloh came back every day to see if I was okay since we met, three years ago! Did you just not want me to have friends?"
Mr. Owens was about to slam his fist on the table, but stopped, "Remi...I'm sorry...I just," he paused. He was trembling with fear, "Didn't think you were ready to go out in the real world on your own. When I found Shiloh standing at our front door three year ago, I was worried he wouldn't accept you for who you are...like your mother and I have. But when I noticed he would come back every morning when the sun came up, just looking for you, he had no idea and if he did, I could tell he grew more worried every day. Shiloh wrote you letters, and would bring them daily, we kept them in a shoe box and hid it until we thought you were ready...well...until I thought you were ready," he explained, tears ready to fall.
Remi had never seen her father like this. Her anger faded away and she went to hug him, "Daddy...I'm not your little girl anymore. I'm almost an adult and am a full grown monster. All my features came in, as far as I know. I know it's hard to see me grow up, but it's happening and it can't be stopped. If I could be your little girl forever, I would," she confessed. Being a teen wasn't the greatest thing in the world, but she did love her parents, even if they weren't like her. "Can I ask you a question?"
Her parents smiled, "Of course sweetheart. What is it?" her mother spoke softly, watching her husband and daughter hug it out.
"Where is this shoe box you speak of?" she asked interested.
Her parents exchanged glances, "It's actually under your bed, princess. One of your Somber's was protecting it until you were ready," her mother answered.
"So...you guys hid in the most obvious place?" Remi giggled. They both nodded and chuckled.
"Can I go get it and look in it?"
"Yes. Are we forgiven?" Mr. Owens asked in a hopeful tone.
Remi stayed quiet for a moment after she turned around to face the living room. "Yes, you and mom are forgiven. I just wish you would have told me sooner," she said without turning to face them. She headed off to her room and straight to under her bed. She could see a Somber clutching onto a shoe box, guarding it with their life. "I can take it. I am ready," she told it. The Somber made a strange gurgling, vibration sound and gave in to giving Remi the box. It came out with it and it was a cute little black figure that had large red eye, arms and legs, hands and feet and finally ears and a tail that were feline like. Remi sat on her bed and put the box in her lap. The Somber followed her on the bed and snuggled into her. She took a deep inhale and let it out shakily and slowly before opening the box.
