"So, why are you at my house?" Shiloh whispered, making sure not to wake his parents. Remi observed Shiloh's actions before she started talking.
"...do you trust me?" Remi asked as she sat on his unmade bed. Shiloh nodded and sat next to her, wrapping his arms around her gently. She wasn't sure how to tell him; she didn't want to be blunt about it, but how else was she supposed to tell him. She looked his way and before she even began, he touched his lips to hers. Her cheeks grew darker and she went with it.
"Shiloh! Don't forget you have to help out Mrs. Hanks down the street with her lawn! Please get your homework done before you go!" his father shouted up the stairs. Remi pulled away and chewed the inside of her cheek, realizing it was Mr. Peak that murdered her father.
"Yeah dad, I got it! I'll be down in a minute for some breakfast!" Shiloh shouted back, turning to Remi; his expression went from happy to concerned in a split second just seeing Remi's facial expression. "What's wrong, Remi?"
Remi looked to Shiloh with tears in her eyes, not wanting to tell him what she found out. She swallowed the lump in her throat and wrapped her arms around him, embracing him tightly, "My dad..." she began, but stopped. She buried her face into Shiloh's chest as she cried.
Shiloh held her as she cried, shaking frantically, "You dad what? Hurt you? Left? Hurt your mom? Remi, I ca--"
"He's dead, Shiloh!" she blurted in tears. It wasn't what she wanted to do, but it just slipped out. Remi trusted Shiloh and she couldn't keep quiet after what she saw in her bedroom. She was devastated, frightened and a whole lot more. She was afraid that if light peeked through Shiloh's blinds, she would shift to her Somber, but she knew Shiloh wouldn't purposely put her in that sort of danger.
Shiloh dropped his arms to his side and just stared at Remi stunned, "What do you mean he's dead? I just saw him this a few hours ago!" Shiloh expressed and Remi shook her head, forgetting he didn't know about her biological parents.
"Mr. Owens is my adopted father. My biological father is dead...I saw him on my bedroom floor at home..." she choked, looking down at her feet. Shiloh pushed her hair behind her ears and made her look up at him, before he went down for breakfast. His chocolate brown eyes gazed into Remi's hazel ones with a loving smile across his lips. He kissed her cheek before getting up from his bed.
"We will find out who killed your biological father. Once we do, they will pay for what they did," Shiloh's smiled faded as he stepped over to his bedroom door. "I promise, we will get revenge for your father." he left his bedroom, shutting it behind him. He poked his head back in for a second with a cheesy smile, "Do you want anything, sweetie pie?"
Remi shook her head and gave a small smile as Shiloh left the second time, "I already know who the killer is...your dad..." she said softly to herself and knew it was best for her to leave before things got worse. She flipped the blinds up and her theory was right, she had instantly shifted to her Somber form. Remi slipped under Shiloh's bed, hoping he wouldn't look under there for her. If he did, he wouldn't know it was her and she wanted to keep it that way.
The four small creatures that resembled Remi's forms hovered over Shiloh's bed worried about her, "Remi, you don't like killing. You don't have to kill Mr. Peak. You even told your parents that you wouldn't," the Lucent reassured. "You may call me Lucent, by the way. The Somber you can call Somber, he doesn't mind," Lucent giggled.
'Thank you, but I was more confident until I found out who it was. If it wasn't Shiloh's dad, or anyone related to Shiloh, I would be fine...but because it is a direct relative of Shiloh...I can't do anything. I can't let Shiloh the truth about me...about what his father did...' Remi linked to the Lucent and the others.
"I understand that, but he needs to learn sometime, doesn't he?" Somber remarked snarkily.
Aurora growled at him, "Why would she need to jeopardize everything she has with Shiloh? That is something she shouldn't have to do. She doesn't want to die from Shiloh standing up to her," he argued with Somber.. His nine tails flicked irritated.
Somber smirked, "Who made you in charge, Aurora? You may be a mix between Lucent and I, but that doesn't mean you are in charge of us and of our decisions," he spat.
Lucent jumped in on the fight and Royal stayed quiet, not enjoying arguments at all. She was a healer and helper, not a harmer or fighter. She went down under the bed to be with Remi, who wasn't doing well herself, "You don't have to hurt anyone, Remi. Just drown out the arguing and try to calm down. Everything will fix itself in time," she told her.
Remi whimpered and heard Shiloh's door open, "You things again. I'll kill you, just like I did the Somber I saw earlier," Mr. Peak hissed. He bent down, looking under Shiloh's bed, seeing Remi, "You are next, demon," he threatened. Remi scooted farther under Shiloh's bed, getting as far away from Mr. Peak as she could. He stood up, straightened his clothing out and left the room, leaving the door open. Remington wasn't the monster in their relationship, Shiloh's father was.
'Please close the blinds, I need to do something before Shiloh comes back up here,' she linked to Royal. She nodded and flew to the blinds, closing them quickly. Remi crawled out from under the bed and grabbed some scrap paper along with a pen. She scribbled down a note for him to read:
Shiloh,
I am sorry for leaving so suddenly. It's too risky staying here right now.
I am not sure when we will see each other again. I love you and stay safe.
If you trust me, you will write me letters like before.
I will have a reply for every note you write me.
Promise.
Love,
Remington
P.S. I will let you know when I believe it is safe for us to see each other once more.
She left it on his pillow and swiftly left from his window, wings spread on her Somber form when sunlight hit her. Remi flew back home, hoping to not be seen by Mr. Peak. What she didn't understand was if he didn't believe in his Somber anymore, why was he able to see her species still?
