"The losses would be severe. They use poison gas that chokes the lungs, so if we don't plan it right... we could all die," Liana didn't understand how Xina could be so calm about such a serious topic. She was freaking out! A couple hours on Outcast Island, and she was already threatened with death.
"And our other option is to hide? How do we hide from acid fog?" Liana asked, anxiously tracing patterns in the fur floor with her finger. "We don't have bunkers or anything! And I'm sure our tents won't do any good, especially if they come looking for us with gas masks or something."
"There is one bunker that our ancestors made, that they were unable to find and tear down," Xina trailed off, as if lost in her own thoughts. "But I'm not sure how long we could stay there without going crazy. Our people would fit, but only barely. And it'll take days for the acid fog to clear."
Liana shrugged, still wondering why Xina was asking for her opinion. After all, she was the newbie. "That might be the best option. But if the fog kills people, it'll kill animals, too, right? We won't have food."
"We can afford to take some of our horses into the bunker, and maybe chickens too. Still, I don't think that's the best option, which is why you're here," Xina's gaze bore into her, piercing her like needles and sending chills crawling up her spine.
Liana did her best to hold Xina's gaze. "What exactly do I have to do?"
"I think... that you could use your Psychokinesis to block the acid fog," Xina studied her, lips pursed together. "One of our Forseers saw it in his vision. He thought Selene sent you to us for this very reason. In fact..." she got up and opened the flap to the tent exit, where Iris was diligently waiting outside. "Could you fetch Taylor from the Forseer's tent?"
Iris nodded without hesitation, winking at Liana, and walked off towards the red tent clenching and unclenching her fists nervously.
"I've never used my Psychokenisis to block something, just move things. Solid things." For the first time in her life, Liana doubted her ability. After so many years of being told to hide her powers, she was drastically out of practice. And she had never tried to move anything heavier than a bookshelf.
"You can practice with smoke," Xina twisted her fingers nervously, which was strangely out of character. "At least try."
"Okay," Liana said, finally understanding Xina. She was her only option. She just wanted what was best for her people. "I'll do it."
She turned as a dark haired- boy entered the tent and sat down next to Xina. "You asked to see me?" his hazel eyes flicked to where Liana sat, reading her emotions like a book and giving her a reassuring smile.
I knew it. Forseers aren't creepy.
"Yes, this is the new Blueblood that might be the answer to our flush problem," she filled him in breifly. "Taylor, why don't you tell her what you saw?"
Taylor cleared his throat. "The fog was bloodred. You were somewhere dark, somewhere with a door and stairs. And you were pushing the fog back with something invisible but buzzing with power. Psychokinesis."
Liana turned to him with wide eyes. "You think it's possible? It wasn't just a dream?"
"It happened before I even met you or knew who you were. That can't be a coincidence," Taylor said, a hint of defense in his voice. "I'm Xina's prime Forseer, anyways."
"Let's do it then," Xina straightened, and the hint of weakness Liana had seen in her earlier vanished almost completely as her aura of authority returned. "But first, I'll have Iris take you through the ascension procedure."
