"Yes, it is," a young girl said, walking up to them. "We were taken."
"Taken from where?"
"From the Blessed Lands, at birth. That's what Corey says." she pointed to a boy in his late teens sulking in the corner. "He's the only one that remembers."
"What are they doing to you?" Liana asked, trying to ignore the questions swarming in her brain. She glanced at all the tubes of blood leading to the pipes in the walls.
"They measure how our heartbeat works while we jump, so they can replicate it with a fake one," she stared at the boy inside the chamber. "We take turns inside that."
Liana closed her eyes, remembering the metal teleportation devices that Blackthorne used. "That's how they teleport."
"Exactly."
Iris tilted her head as Corey got up, crossing the room towards them.
"You guys look a little old to be coming here."
"We're not Teleporters," Taylor explained. "We're from Outcast Island."
The word seemed to darken the room. "They'll take you soon enough," Corey huffed. "Don't make friends with them, Beth. I don't want you to be sad when they go."
Beth huffed in defiance. "They won't go."
He pointed at Liana. "She will. They've been talking about using the MK Ultra on her."
"MK Ultra?"
Corey sighed. "Mind control."
She glanced at Iris and Taylor, trying to hide her fear. "Okay, so... what do we do?"
"Jerik will reach out to us once the others tell them what happened. They'll send a rescue party," Taylor said, sitting on a cot.
Iris didn't look so sure. "I'm sure they'll come interrogate us soon."
"It's okay. I won't let you get hurt." Liana's voice sounded more like she was trying to reassure herself than her friends.
Her fingers traced up to the collar, and she glanced at the pipe in front of her, willing it to twist. She held her breath, reaching out a hand-
"They'll notice." Taylor put in, pushing her hand back down. "Try this." he reached out and motioned to a cup. "Lift it."
She rubbed her temples, channeling all her energy into her fingertips. She wouldn't hope that the cup would drift into the air, she knew it would. Liana forced it to comply, breaking through the metal shield, and she wouldn't take no for an answer.
The glass shattered, spraying all over the table and making everyone jump. The Bluebloods all turned to stare at her, mouths agape with shock.
Corey was the first to break from the shock, staring at her with hard eyes, although she saw a glimmer of hope for split second. He raised a hand, pointing at her. "What... what are you?"
A/N: If anyone has suggestions for reaching 5K, tell me in the comments! Aaaand I have decided to share a drawing of Liana that I'll be making soon, but for now, here's someone (Maia McKnight) I drew for my other book, Shifting Storm.
Thank you Laura Hollingsworth for the inspiration! HASTA LUEGO CHICOS
