She only had to think the word, but by the way Beth yelped, she knew that she had reached her head.
What the heck was that? Her thoughts sounded. Am I hearing ghosts?
It's Liana.
Beth turned with wide eyes towards her twitching limbs, meeting her eyes. Best she could, Liana nodded.
What are you doing in my head?
I figured out how to mind link. But- we don't have much time. When the guards turn to leave, I'm going to break our collars, okay? Be fast. Teleport to the others. Get them to safety.
What about you?
I'll be fine. She grunted as the tingling sensation spread to her arms.
Allie smiled. "It's working."
"Can you make her attack them?" Demitri asked the guards.
Go.
Liana screamed as she broke though the shield, because this time, it was painful. The collars snapped off and Corey and Beth glitched away in a half- second, leaving Liana alone with two murderers.
"Crap!" Demitri yelled, pointing to the shocked guards. "Find them! Go- GO!"
Ally narrowed her eyes at Liana, who had lost all control of her body. "It was her."
"Why doesn't Blackthorne just kill her?!" Demitri threw his hands up. "This was never going to work anyway!"
A different sensation gripped Liana, like needles pricking her joints.
Blackthorne entered the room, his dark eyes narrowed, and he held a hologram pad in one hand and a knife in the other. "Why don't I?"
Liana shuddered, hoping Taylor and Iris would agree to leave without her. One they were gone, the only person SEAM could hurt was her. She glanced at the gleaming blade in Blackthorne's hand, sucking in a breath as her body jerked and writhed. Only her head stayed in her control.
"I meant no disrespect," Demetri said as Liana struggled to wrench the knife out of Blackthorne's hand. But somehow, with his presence, her power felt useless. Gone.
"But- we can't control her," Allie finished for him, wrenching her head in his direction.
Blackthorne nodded slowly, but typed a few things into the pad. Liana's hand shot up, and Allie's pinned against the wall. Finally, she understood- Blackthorne didn't just take control of her body, he took control of her power.
"Maybe not," he mused as the knife floated in the air above his palm, "But I can break her. I will break her. With the Griffin boy."
Liana's breath hitched with the mention of Taylor, and Blackthorne noticed her discomfort. "She has the power to kill the entire island of Bluebloods- with the right persuasion."
Please, Taylor, don't be stupid. Please leave.
Not without you.
She hadn't realized that she had been mind- linking- but was glad she found him. They're going to use you against me. You have to go with Beth.
The Teleporters already left.
Liana cursed loudly, causing Blackthorne to glance over in her direction. "What are you doing?"
She ignored him and continued talking with Taylor. Get out of there. Don't be stupid.
Liana...
Do it.
"I can't."
It took her a second to realize the words did not come from inside her head.
