She tried not to make a sound as she made her way out of the room, knowing she shouldn't bother trying to get sleep. Jerik. I'm going to mind- link Blackthorne. If he's still alive...
No.
Liana glanced through the doorway, staring at the silhouette that had gotten out of their sleeping spot and was making their way towards her. If you want to listen in, I'll let you.
No way, Liana. SEAM figured out how to harness the Teleporter's power- I don't want them finding a way to harness yours.
Oops, they already have.
I'm serious. They could find out where we are and flush us out in a heartbeat. He stepped over the last sleeping figure and joined her in the doorway, looking tired. "You need to stop taking risks."
"It will be worth it," she insisted. "I need to know if it's true."
"You think he'll tell you?"
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted movement, a slight hitch of breath. Someone was awake. We've got a listener, she warned, pushing out her mind, trying to find who it was. She felt Jerik's mind searching his Blueblood's thoughts as well. Liana felt the jagged ice of Charlie's thoughts, piercing through the darkness.
What are they talking about? What is she not telling me?
It's just Charlie, Liana said, withdrawing from her head.
Jerik turned back to her, eyes narrowed. Not just her. Travis was listening too.
Liana glanced back at the sleeping figures, wondering which once was him. Am I allowed to tell them?
I trust your judgement- he glanced at her raised eyebrow- not with risks, but with friends.
Allie. It only took one word to silence his thoughts.
No one saw that coming, Liana.
She sighed and leaned against the wall. I saw her, at the SEAM base. She asked why Blackthorne didn't just kill me.
She isn't who we thought she was, Jerik assured her.
I didn't kill her. I didn't do anything. And I didn't make sure that Blackthorne was dead.
I understand if you're not comfortable with killing anymore. He tilted his head, and a crease formed between his brows.
Liana shook her head, rubbing her temples. It's not that. I should've finished him. I don't know why I didn't.
There was a silence between them that seemed to last for minutes, but it was really just a few seconds. Finally, Jerik spoke. I will let you read Blackthorne, he said, pausing, picking his words carefully, if I can listen in. Don't talk to him or give him any sign that you're there unless I think it's safe.
Okay, she agreed. Now?
