The last few months at home couldn't go any slower. True, they weren't bad for Amie, she was just eager to start learning actual magic. Ever since Amie's parents learned about her being a witch they had been spending more time getting to know their daughter, who they previously almost had ignored. Amie liked the attention she was given, and her relationship with her parents had greatly improved. She found herself actually liking her parents now that she knew them better. Every day she would read one of her books -- she simply couldn't get enough of them -- after that she would go for a run around the neighbourhood, before coming home and spending time with her mum, and eventually her dad when he came home from work. Mr. and Mrs Jones had always loved their daughter in a way, but at the same time they had resented her because she ruined their last years of school. They had been able to finish their education with the help of Mrs. Jones parents who babysitted Amie, but their popularity had sunk and people looked down on them. Now, however, Mr. and Mrs. Jones saw the error of their ways and during their many talks with their daughter they learned that they actually could have raised her worse. She was smart, kind and generous, and they were astounded that they had succeded with her even though she had had almost no love from them growing up.

Eventually the day came for Amie to go to Hogwarts. She had, once again, woken up early, so she threw on her running outfit and ran around the blocks one last time before she left. She was anxious, nervous and excited all at the same time, and when she came home she could barely stand still long enough to shower. The Jones family ate their breakfast and left the house when it was still quite early. It didn't take long to get to King's cross, they didn't live that far away, they arrived with half an hour to spare before the train left. Before Amie ran through the wall, as McGonagall had instructed her to, she spent quite a while in her parents' arms, all three of them sobbing.

"Be a good girl now, okay?" Anne told her daughter. "We want you to be happy, so smile and have fun for us. Bring back some stories to tell us."

"I will mum. Bye dad. Tell grandma and gramps I love them!" Amie said and smiled, before turning the trolley around and running straight through the wall.

As Amie came out on the other side the sight before her made her gasp. A great scarlet steam engine was before her, and the platform was full of people. The sound was deafening, owls were hooting, people were shouting and the train was steaming. Amie was grateful she had said good-bye outside of the platform, otherwise she wouldn't have heard her mothers parting words. Her parents had thought about coming through with her, but had decided against it. Amie hastened aboard the train to find a free compartment, and she found one almost at the middle of the train. She lifted in her owl Lucy's cage first, before trying to heave her trunk over the threshold, but she couldn't move it - it was so heavy.

"Want some help?" asked a small girl with bushy brown hair and quite large front teeth.

"Please." Amie answered and together the two girls lifted both of their trunks into the compartment and put them in a corner - they didn't even think about lifting it up on the racks, they knew they wouldn't manage that.

"I'm Hermione Granger, by the way. Are you called AJ?" the girl said and offered her hand to Amie, while looking at her necklace.

"It's my initials, I'm Amie Jones." Amie replied and shook Hermione's hand.

Amie had made her first friend.

The train ride went very well, and even though Hermione seemed to like talking about the school subjects a bit to much, they still got along very well and had a lot in common. They both had muggle parents and they both wanted to be sorted into Gryffindor. They spent quite some time learning spells from the books, and Amie found that she and Hermione were both very good at learning how to do them. A while after the food trolley had arrived when the girls where eating sweets, a round-faced boy with blonde hair and blue-green eyes knocked on the compartment door and entered, tears in his eyes.
