"What are we waiting fer?" On of the many newsies groaned.
"Waiting fer da cue." Spot snapped back with a hushed tone.
Y/N was quite antsy. Tonight was the night The Children's Crusade was being printed and spread throughout town. What made the situation scary was the potential chance that they'd get caught and arrested for trespassing, which would land all of the newsies in The Refuge. Y/N shuttered at the thought of being stuck in such a grimy tight space. Spot could clearly see the distress on Y/N's face to which he grabbed Y/N hand.
Y/N lifted her head to meet Spot's dark brown eyes. Spot gave Y/N a reassuring look that seemed to say "it was all going to be ok."
Y/N took a deep breath and interlocked fingers with Spot. The two smiled. It was a strange feeling; holding hands with someone. Spot's hands were calloused and slightly bruised on his knuckles, while Y/N hands were calloused, bruised and a little cut up with scabs over top due to the fight.
"There's change a-coming Y/N." Spot whispered staring directly at the closed entrance.
Y/N cocked her head slightly to the left. "Whatcha mean?" She asked.
Spot looked at Y/N dead in the eye with wonder and excitement. "Love, when ya makes da front page. You is major news."
"What makes ya think we'd gonna get on da front page?" Y/N asked.
"Jus watch what happens." Spot smiled gripping Y/N hand a little tighter.
"Tomorrow, they is gonna see what we are. Sure as a star, we ain't come dis far ta lose." Spot said to himself.
It was at that very moment the large steel doors in front of the newsies opened, to which the whole slew of newsies ran in. "Here they come!" Race yelled as loud as he could.
Everyone ran to there "stations."
This is the story we needed to write as we kept out of sight but no more.
Y/N glanced down to see Davey and Jack awaiting for the papers that were "falling off the press." Down there also to assist was Spot.
Spot stared back up at Y/N, fingers crossed.
Y/N gave a wistful smile despite all the butterflies in her stomach.
In a few hours; by dawns early light we'll be ready to fight us a war.
"Ya seem nervous."
Y/N jumped and looked beside her, it was Racetrack. He was leaning over the railing. "Yeah, course I am. Aren't you?" Y/N replied.
"Yeah, it's jus. . . I got my mind on a lot." Race sighed.
Y/N placed a hand on Race's shoulder getting him to look at her. "We all do." Y/N kindly said with a half worried expression.
This time we're in it to stay. Tawking bout seizing the day.
It was then Jack yelled from the staircase. "Writing in ink, or in blood it's da same either way. They're gonna damn we'll pay."
This phrase boosted everyone's confidence.
See old man Pulitzer snug in his bed, he don't care if we're dead or alive. Three satin pillows are under his head, while we're begging for bread to survive.
Joe you can stop counting sheep, we're gonna sing ya sleep. You've got got your thugs with their sticks and they're slugs, Yeah!
But we've got a promise to keep.
"Once and for all, if they don't mind they're manners we'll bleed em!" Jack yelled grinding his teeth.
"Bleed em!" Everyone chanted.
"Once and for all! We won't carry no banners that don't spell freedom!" Race yelled getting hyped.
Finally we's raising da stakes! This time whatever it takes! This time the union awakes! Once and for all!
Y/N looked down to see Jack and Katherine. "Keep your fingers crossed." Katherine said crossing her fingers and starting to walk away. It was just then Jack grabbed her hand. "Fer us to." He nervously but kindly said.
Katherine nodded her head before leaving.
Papers started getting passed around to all the newsies in a assembly line fashion.
This is for kids, shinning shoes on the streets with no shoes on there feet everyday. This is for guys sweating blood in the shops, while their bosses and cops look away. I'm seeing kids standing tall, glaring and blaring da brawl. All of these guys who are sick of the lies getting ready to rise to the call!
Once and for all they'll blood on the wall if they doubt us! They think they're running this town, but this town would shut down without us!
All the newsies began to untie their bundle of papers.Ten thousand kids in the square! Ten thousand fists I'm the air! Joe you is gonna play fair, once and for all!
With everyone's papers untied, they waited for the signal to leave.
Once and for all!
Once and for all!
Once and for all!
Once and for all!
There's change coming, once and for all. You're getting to old! To weak to keep holding on! A new world is coming for you, and Joe we is too! Til once and for all you're gone!
"Once and for all!" Davey yelled.
"Once and for all!" Jack joined in.
"Once and for all!" Everyone else in the area yelled.Once and for all!!!!!
Spot ran up to Y/N with his papers. "Good luck." Spot whispered.
Y/N smiled leaning in, kissing Spot on the lips sweetly. "You to." She whispered.
Spot smiled pulling back some hair and putting it behind Y/N's slightly rosy read ears. (They were red due to the cold temperature of the room)
Y/N placed a hand on Spot's which was still on her cheek, which are also a little rosy.
"I love ya." Y/N mouthed.
"I love ya too." Spot mouthed back.
The two then smiled at each other once more before heading their separate ways.
"Now I see whatcha means Spot." Y/N told herself think back to what Spot had told her when they were at the entree way.
They Newsies were truly and finally going to get even with Joe, once and for all.A/N honestly out of all the chapters I've written for any of my stories this is my favourite.
