3 Days later
Luna: I should have everything. Suitcase, electronics, keys, extra bag full of things I couldn't fit in my suitcase......
I was making sure I had everything before my drive to the cabin. Excited, nervous, impatient, all rolled into one was basically me in three words. I was about to walk out the house when something from the living room caught my eye. The picture. Mom, Dad, and my older sister Celeste all in one frame, in one place, the only portal to the good days. When everyone was happy and everything was ok. Now, those were only memories to something that could never happen again. I decided to take the photo with me and put it in my bag.
Luna: I'm all set.....and as ready as I'll ever be.
With the house locked and the car loaded, I was off to the cabin.
~~~
A two and a half hour drive and I'm finally here. Driving up to the house and parking in the driveway was like a scene from a movie I hadn't seen for a while. Nostalgia hit my like a ton of bricks and I couldn't help but smirk. I got out the car and walked up to the front door. When I was younger the front door was so big and Celeste and I always used to pretend it was a gateway to another world, and in a way it always was. Now it just seemed like a normal sized door with some fancy engravings. There was one thing about the door that didn't make sense though.
Luna: Where's the handle? And the keyhole? Now that I think about it, none of us even had a key. So how do I.....
The door opened. There wasn't anyone there it just simply opened on it's own and for a moment I could have sworn that the engravings light up purple but that wasn't possible, was it?
Luna: Did it always open like this? No dad would always.... but Celeste and I would always run ahead without him and.......did it?
Nonetheless, I walked in and closed the door behind me. It was exactly as I remembered. The couch with the tv and coffee table full of out of date magazines. Behind it the island that connected to the wall which separated the kitchen and living room. All along the right wall of the room were stairs leading to the second floor with all the bedrooms. The glass sliding doors were in the very back next to the kitchen which lead into the porch and the yard with a set of swings and a giant oak tree with.......the tree house. So many memories and I had only just walked in. I shook out of my nostalgic trance and started to climb the stairs with my bags. Three rooms, the guest room, the room Celeste and I would share, and the master room. Now in this family the master room belonged to the master of the house. Whenever Celeste and I would complain about not being able to sleep there, Dad would tell us that when we became the masters of the house we would get to stay in "the big room".
Luna: Is this what you meant Dad? Sure I wanted the room eventually, I was a kid but......*sigh* not like this.
Following tradition I walked to the master room. I hesitated to open the door. Why was I hesitating?
Luna: It's just a room.
I grabbed the handle and opened the door.
