I can't. I'm staring at the ceiling again. I can't sleep. I've tried every position known to man-kind and I can't sleep. My head is too awake, not to mention this room is just too empty and too quiet. I get up and go downstairs and plop myself onto the couch. I pick up the picture I brought from home.
Luna: So, here we are again. Mom, Dad, Celeste. You know I've tried everything to meditation to warm milk but nothing works. Heh, kinda funny though. Mom, you would always get on me about sleep, you would tell me to count sheep but I couldn't just fall over and knock out like Celeste could. I swear that girl can sleep through anything. Dad.....we'd just sneak to the kitchen and talk and joke for hours until mom came and ruined everything. But I would always sleep like a baby after that. I miss those nights.......I hope you mom are happy wherever you are. I'm not gonna lie, the room feels empty without you two.....Hell the whole house does......I miss you....I really miss you......
Tears start to fall from my face when I hear the infamous squeaky step. I wipe my face quickly and turn around to see Jackson frozen on the staircase.
Luna: How long have you been standing there?
Jackson: Long enough. Can't sleep?
I shake my head and wipe the new tears that had snuck their way down while Jackson joins me on the couch.
Jackson: Want some milk or something?
I shake my head again.
Luna: Nothing really works anymore.
Jackson: Well how about a walk? Seems like a nice night for it.
Luna: Sure, why not?
We make our way out the house, pick a random path and start walking.
We talk about my parents at first but it isn't long till Jackson starts to lighten up the mood with a new topic and jokes to go along with it. After a while he stops and signals me to be quiet.Luna: What is it?
Jackson: Shh
After a few seconds Jackson's eyes go wide and a switch seems to go off in his head, he pushes me back towards the house.
Jackson: Get back to the house. Now!
Luna: But-
Jackson: For once don't be stubborn, GO!
So I start running and I hear Jackson running behind me.
Jackson: Shit!
Luna: Jackson?
I stop and turn around to see Jackson holding something that looked like a dart. I want to close the distance between us and check on him but his eyes are focused on me. And they tell me to stay.
Jackson: Luna listen to me, get back to the house. I'll meet you there, promise.
Luna: But- Are you okay? What's going on?
Jackson: I'm fine, just get back to the house. When I tell you to run you're gonna turn around and run, got it?
Luna: But-
Jackson: Got it?
I nod. He's serious and even though I want to stay I can tell he won't let me. He looks around watching something I can't see.
Jackson: 3......2......1...........Run!
I turn around and book it. I can hear Jackson curse again behind me, which could only mean that he got hit again. My legs run on their own against my better judgement. I want to go back but the look in Jackson's eyes keep me running. I make it to the house and burst through the door, completely out of breath. I turn around expecting Jackson to come through any minute but when he doesn't I start to worry. I wait a few minutes longer, pacing behind the couch, but he doesn't come and now I'm growing impatient. I make my way to the door, mind made up but, the engravings on the door are glowing maroon.
Luna: That doesn't seem good.
