Elm: I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-Luna: It's.....It's ok, really.....but um ya, that's the one
I look up from my mug and everyone looks at me a bit worried. I force a smile.
Luna: I'm ok guys, really.
Jackson: If you say so.
There's a silence for a few moments until I break it.
Luna: Anyway, I'm gonna be staying in that cabin for the summer
Elm: The whole summer
Luna: Yup
Sara: Do you want some company?
Luna: I mean, I wouldn't mind-
Jackson: But?
Luna: Buut I wanna spend some time by myself. At least for a week or two. After that I can text you guys the address and you're more than welcome to visit.
Jackson: Take as much time as you need
Hunter: Ya, we aren't in any rush
Sara: And besides, some of us still have jobs
Elm: Ugh, don't remind me
Luna: I just wanted to let you guys know so you don't go filing a missing persons report
Hunter: Please, Jackson would probably get the whole army to search for you before any of us noticed you were even gone.
Jackson: Hey!
Hunter: What? It's true isn't it?
Everyone laughs as Jackson's cheeks turn a light shade of pink. Sara's phone goes off and she checks it.
Sara: Well looks like duty calls
Elm: Already?
Sara: Yup, come on Elm, I gotta get ready
Elm: *sigh* Ok
Luna: It seems like your going to work earlier and earlier
Sara: Ya, it does kinda feel that way doesn't it
Hunter checks his phone and finishes his coffee with one last gulp.
Hunter: I better head out too, don't wanna be late.
Jackson: But you don't have to go to work for another four hours
Hunter: Exactly, I'm already running behind schedule
Jackson rolls his eyes as Hunter, Sara, and Elm put money on the table for their drinks and get up from the booth.
Sara: We'll hang out later ok?
Luna: Sounds good.
Hunter: Don't do anything stupid
Jackson: No promises
They wave goodbye to Mark as they leave the cafe.
Jackson: You want anything else?
Luna: No I'm good
Jackson: K, I'm gonna go pay for everything
Luna: Sounds good lemme get-
Jackson: Don't worry about it, I got it
Luna: Jackson, that's nice and all but I can pay for my own tea, ya know
Jackson: I know, I'm not saying you can't but, let me get it ok?
Luna: *sigh* fine
Jackson gets up from the booth and grabs the money off the table, goes to the counter and pays for everything, he starts talking to Mark as I look out the window and watch the clouds slowly move across the sky. A few minutes later Jackson walks back to the booth receipt in hand.
Jackson: Hey
Luna: Hmm?
I looks away from the window to find Jackson with a concerned look on his face
Jackson: You sure you're alright?
Luna: Ya, I'm sure
Jackson: Wanna talk about it?
Luna: .........What's there to talk about? He's gone, I miss him, but the world keeps turning, and life still goes on. Like I've said before I just want to treat it like a normal day.
Jackson: I know but that doesn't mean you can just tuck everything away and act like it didn't happen
Luna: I know......
Jackson: Come on, I'll take you home
Luna: Seems like I have no choice
With one last sip from my mug, I get up from the booth. We both wave at Mark and thank him on the way out. Jackson once again opens the car door for me before getting in himself and once the car is warmed up, we're on our way back to my house.
Jackson: So you never said when you were leaving
Luna: Leaving?
Jackson: To the cabin
Luna: I didn't?
Jackson: No, so when are you leaving?
Luna: I don't know, I guess I never really set up an exact date, maybe the day after tomorrow
Jackson: So soon? I mean it's up to you
Luna: I don't know we'll see
Jackson: Whatever you say.
We pull up to my house.
Jackson: You want me to stay over today?
Luna: Nah it's alright, I'll probably just clean or something, besides, I don't want you being late to work
Jackson: You and I both know you wouldn't let me be late, even if I wanted to. But if you say so. If you need anything you know who to call.
Luna: Yup, Sara
Jackson: Ha ha very funny, now get inside before I stay anyway
I stick my tongue out at him and get out of the car. Before I make my way inside I waved back at Jackson as he drives off. Once inside I take off my shoes and leave them by the door and throw myself on the couch. I look at the coffee table and pick up the photo that was in the middle.
Luna: Miss ya Dad, hope you can still see the moon......wherever you are.
