I wake alone with Erica in the front seat and me in back. By myself. It takes me a moment to remember where I’m at. Where did Josiah go? He’s never up before me?
“Macy, you awake?” Erica asks me sounding a bit out of breathe.
“Yeah, you okay?” I ask.
“Yeah, just, I had a nightmare.” Erica explains. She gulps between her first couple of words then began her sentence.
“Do you know where Josiah went?” I ask. The dream seemed so real.
“No, I think he went out to the bay to skip some rocks or something.” Erica explains as I get out of the car. There he is. Standing at the edge of the shore. I don’t remember coming to this side of town. I only remember being at the hotel that Elizabeth and Wes are staying at. I go to tap Josiah’s shoulder, but instead I just start talking.
“Hey.” I manage to say.
“Hey, you alright after last night?” He asks throwing a rock.
“Yeah, are you?”
“Yeah, I’m okay.” he says awkwardly. “You were talking in your sleep last night.”
“Oh yeah. What was I saying?” I ask.
“You kept saying things like I do, I promise. What were you dreaming about last night.?” he asks smirking as I laugh.
“ I think if I answer that question, you would fly out of the country.” I laugh.
“Well, we better get back to the hotel. Damn Elizabeth kept coming out to the car singing What I Like About You.” Josiah explains as we walk back to the car. He then reaches for my hand. A breeze starts to pick up making me shiver.
During the drive back I start to stare out the window. I start remembering such good memories from when I first met Josiah to now. He was adorable back then. Little chubby cheeks when he smiled. Put just the right amount of hair gel in his hair. Now he still has those features only a much deeper voice. I remember when I first heard his voice on the first day of seventh grade. I thought it was amazing then. Its so much deeper now. Enough to make a girl’s jaw drop. We finally pull up to the hotel. Elizabeth is in her room right now along with Wes.
“Elizabeth open the door!” Josiah demands knocking at the door.
“Fine okay just say so.” Elizabeth says answering the door. All their stuff is sprawled on the floor and chairs. After my glance of the room, Wes walks into the room wiping off his face with a towel.
“So, do you guys remember anything about last night?” Josiah asks clearing off a seat for him to sit in.
“Of course, I remember everything.” Elizabeth says.
“Okay what do you remember?” I ask sitting on the arm of the chair Josiah is sitting in.
“I remember we went to the beach for a party. There was so much to eat and drink. I started filling my pockets with candy. Towards sunset Wes called me over to the shore of the beach. He then got down on one knee and proposed. See. Anyways I was so happy I started eating all the candy in my pocket and so did Wes. When we got done at the party we couldn’t stop laughing. I then started running around doing stupid shit. After that I ran into the room and fell asleep face planting onto the bed.” Elizabeth explains eating a lollipop.
“So hold up, you mean to tell me that entire time you weren’t drunk you were just on a sugar rush. What kind of party did you go to?” I blurt.
“We went over to my Aunt’s house for my cousin’s birthday party.” Wes explains.
“God damn both of you. I hate both of you. I was worried sick about the two of you. Don’t ever do that to me!” I blurt.
