I awoke the next morning before sunrise. I showered quickly. I grabbed my car keys and headed out. I drove to Magnus's house on record time. When I arrived I knocked on his door several times. After several minutes I started to grow impatience.

"Magnus open this door or I swear on the angle I will bust right through it." I yelled.

Seconds later the door opened to reveal a really pissed Magnus. His eyes were in slits and his hair was ruffled. I pushed passed him and I removed my coat.

"Magnus I thought you said you'd be up early. You of all people should know that the ritual starts right before sunrise."

"I know. I just couldn't sleep last night. Get something to eat if you'd like, I'm getting dressed." With that he stumbled out of the room.

I hung my jacket and headed to his kitchen. What I saw surprised me. It was neat and well preserved. The counters were made of steel and everything seemed in order and in place. I checked to see if there as any food but there wasn't. On the last cabinet I found a box of crackers. I grabbed them and headed back to the living room. I sat down and ate while I waited. Chairman came and made himself comfortable on my lap. Minutes later Magnus came in looking better than before. His hair was in place and and was wearing dark jeans and a black shirt.

He looked at me and the box I was holding.

"What? You said I could eat anything."

"Yea but not my cats food."

I started spitting everything back out.

"Don't worry about it now. Come on we have to set things up in the back."

I brushed of the crumbs and headed back. I left my coat inside and I soon regretted it. Even though I was wearing long sleeves the temperature was still too cold for me. Magnus didn't seemed bothered by it since he was on wearing a thin T-shirt.

For the rest of the time we set up his backyard. It was big enough to do the ritual and not be noticed. I helped him make a fire pit and put candles around it. Magnus laid out the mortal sword and the cup side by side in front of the pit. I stood back as he lit up the candles with the flick of his wrist. The Morgenstern's arrived soon and they stood around not talking. Magnus changed a few words before lighting the pit.

He looked over my shoulder, "it's ready."

I turned to see Alexia standing behind me. Her face showed nothing as I walked to her.

"I wish this wasn't happening," tears streamed down her face. I reached up and cupped her face.

"I know baby, I wish it were me and not you," I whispered gently.

"I'm sorry we both got into this mess."

"You have nothing to apologize for, Valentine does. But trust me, everything will be fine. And if something goes wrong I promise I'll be right here. I won't let anything happen to you." I pulled her into my arms.

As I pulled away she reached up and wiped away a stray tear that made its way down my face.

"I love you," she said.

She turned and left me. I felt like a part of me was being ripped away with each step she took away from me. My heart burned as I saw her stand in front of Magnus. He whispered some things to her and she nodded. Magnus picked up the book of spells and started chanting in a language I didn't recognize. We all stood frozen and waited. As the minutes passed his chanting a got louder and the fire seemed to grow brighting and hotter. A minute later a figure formed from the fire and Magnus suddenly stopped. We all looked at the figure that was made of fire.
