Chapter 13: Dress shopping

We wait outside the mall for a while until i see Claire, Ella and Heidi heading towards us. We go to our favourite store Blue Jade and i try on several dresses before i find the perfect one. It's a lime green colour, it is decorated with silver gems in various places on the top and the bottom is a bit puffed out. After all of us found our dresses we headed to the food court to eat. I ordered a foot long sub and so did all of my friends. We all headed home after that.

(2 weeks later)

Today is Thursday, i have just returned from school and i'm getting ready to go get my nails done. My friends appointments are all way after me. So my mum is taking me there. The prom is tomorrow and i'm really excited. Me and Jake have been going great, he is one of the best guys i know besides my dad. It is starting to get really hot because its getting closer to Summer so i pull on a pair of shorts and a tank top with my black sandals. I straighten my hair and apply a light coat of make up.

I head downstairs to see my mum waiting for me. "Ok lets go your appointments in 15 minutes" she says. I nod my head and walk after her. "So Kate is Jake coming to pick you up for prom?" my mum randomly asks. "No i didn't want him to, i figured you could just drop me off" i reply. "Oh okay, i'll drop you off" she says as we pull into an empty parking space. We walk to the nail parlour and i get a manicure and pedicure. I decide to go with silver french tips. They did a really great job. We head to the food court and eat dinner which consists of chicken salad with water. By the time we get home it's 8:00pm.

I head upstairs to my room and get all my homework out of the way. Then i get ready for bed. I decide to text Jake but just as i pick up my phone to message him. I get a text from an unknown number. Hey beautiful i can't wait to see you at prom tomorrow xx. I cringe at those words who could it even be, its really disturbing. I feel stalked so i get up and make sure that all the doors and windows are locked.

I feel so disturbed that i burst into tears i honestly don't even know why. Just as i pull my blanket over me. My phone starts ringing i gasp and i hope its not the stalker. After a few rings i finally have the courage to look at the screen. Its Jakes so i decide to answer it.

Jake: "Hi Kate"

Me: "Hey" i say sniffing

Jake: "What's wrong?"

Me: "Uh no..nothing"

Jake: "Your lying"

Me: ".... i'll tell you tomorrow" i answer

Jake: "Okay if you insist"

Me: "Goodnight Jake"

Jake: "Goodnight Kate"

Jake:

Why was Kate crying? I'm really worried about her now. I lay in bed for a while, the next thing i remember is waking up to my alarm ringing. I get ready for school and i head downstairs for breakfast. I hear footsteps and turn to see my mum. "Goodmorning Jake, lets go we don't want you to be late" she says and grabs her keys. "Alright" i reply grabbing my bag and following her to the car.

My mum stops the car and i grab my bag and head inside the gate to look for Kate. I see her engulfed in Ellie's arms, i think shes crying. Was it my fault? Did i do something wrong? I walk over to them, "Hey" i say. They turn to look at me and Kate looks up and quickly wipes her tears away. She doesn't say anything so i pull her into a hug and rub her back till the bell goes. She is the first to pull away. "Kate is it my fault?'' i ask staring into her eyes. She looks at me for a while before replying "no it isn't, i just don't know how to tell you this". Without another word she takes my hand ''lets go before were late'' she says while dragging me towards the classroom. 

We walk into roll call just as everyones sitting down, she walks to our seats and sits down without another word.  Shes very quiet throughout the day and before i know it the bells ringing for lunch, we head to the cafeteria and order our food. Her phone suddenly buzzes and she looks at it with a serious expression. Kate suddenly has an expression of fear over her face. Should i ask her what's wrong. ''Hey Kate what's wrong? did something happen?'' i say reaching across the table to hold her hand. ''No...'' she answers.  So i take her phone of her ignoring her protests and quickly check it, the text says. Hey Katie i can see you from across the cafeteria xx . ''Uh Jake the same person texted me last night but i honestly don't know who it is'' she whispers. For some reason i believe her and get up to hug her. ''We have to put a stop to this'' i whisper into her ear. Honestly i'm really scared of losing her. What if this guy is better than me and she falls for him without a second thought.

Kate:

Jake now knows about that stalker and whats even scarier is that he goes to our school and he saw me in the cafeteria. The bell goes to signal the end of school, i say bye to all my friends and Jake before heading to my mums car. ''How was your day?'' she asks as i close the door. ''It was great'' i reply. We drive to the hair salon where they wash, blow dry than curl my hair. They than do my makeup, by the end i look completely different. My mum looks stunned when she see me '' Kate Darling, you look beautiful!'' she exclaims. We pay then head home so i can get dressed before 6:00pm. I wear my dress, slip on my silver shoes, put on my silver earings, bangles and ring. I check myself one last time before heading downstairs where my mum waits for me. We head to the car and when we get there i wave bye to my mum and head inside. 

Gosh the receptions beautiful, i look around for my friends but i don't see anyone familiar. So i decide to find an empty table. Just as i head to a vacant table, ''May i have this dance?'' someone asks and offers a hand. I look up to see who it is and i'm shocked by who i see...
