The next day, Peter and Nikolina weren't talking at all. Nikokina has stuck to Michelle.
"I told you, he'd hate me!" Nikolina complained during lab.
"You kind of made it worse by yelling at them." Michelle said, fixing up their lab project. "Okay, heat it up. What? It needs to be heated fast but the heater takes forever to heat up and we forgot to plug it in."
Nikolina rolled her eyes and made fire come out of her finger, heating the cup up until the contents were boiling, "Yeah, but he hated me before I yelled at them. You should've seen the way he looked at me, it was pure hatred. I should've never let you drag me into this."
"Well, you did. And Tyler keeps checking you out, so something must've gone right." Michelle smirked, adding the other parts to their project.
"But, I don't want Tyler. I want Peter, you know that! Tyler is weird, and he doesn't obey rules." Nikolina told Michelle, stirring the liquid with her mind while Michelle added the ingredients.
"Does Peter follow rules? Do you?" Michelle said and Nikolina shrugged. She was right, neither of them followed rules. I mean, Nikolina wasn't allowed to use her powers at all, but here she was, using them to stir a spoon in a lab project.
When Peter, Ned and Nikolina came home, Ned and Peter went straight to Peter's room, and Nikolina went straight to hers. They didn't even look at each other. May kept asking both of them what had happened but neither of them would answer. Mainly because they didn't really know what had happened. They had yelled at each other and now they were supposed to hate each other. And yet, neither of them hated the other.
A couple of days later, Nikolina was stood outside of the school bus. She had been forced to join the team to the Academic Decathlon because of her insane grades. Whatever HYDRA had put inside her made her an insanely fast learner, and within a month she had gone from not even having grades to straight A's.
She was listening to loud music when she saw Peter run up to the group, asking to rejoin the group. She didn't bother listening to the exact words, but the fact that he stepped on the bus made her think that he was allowed to rejoin.
After she woke up from her nap, she saw that Ned was holding an item in his hands that revealed the location of something.
She leaned closer to them, "What are you guys doing and what the hell is that?"
"What? It's nothing." Peter said, looking back at Ned.
"Okay, then you wouldn't mind if I grabbed that?" Nikolina smirked, using her telekinetic powers to grab the item from Ned's hands and floating it over to herself.
Peter switched sides so that he was sitting behind Nikolina and grabbed it from her, "Okay, fine. When you were drunk and dancing with Tyler," Nikolina rolled her eyes at the fact that he was still blaming her, "I fought some guys using weird alien weapons. And they threw me in a river. And the next day, they came to the school to find the weapon that I stole, and I tracked them to Maryland. That's why I rejoined the team, and that's what this is."
"You stole an alien weapon? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? You don't know what alien weapons do. They kill you, Peter!" Nikolina whisper yelled to him, not wanting to get the attention from everyone else on the bus.
"Like you'd care." Peter muttered, looking down at the tracker device in his lap.
"Shut up, Peter. You know damn well that I care." Nikolina scolded him.
"You sure don't seem like it. So why don't you mind your own business and we'll fix this." Peter told her and went back to his normal seat.
"Whatever." Nikolina was done with him at this point, she had tried countless times to help him but he wouldn't let her get close. Little did she know that it was because he didn't want her to get hurt.
The next morning, Peter was nowhere to be found. They did their decathlon without him and won, no problem. Then they went to the Washington Monument and got a tour.
As they were going up the elevator, something blew up and they got stuck. The ceiling looked like it was going to burn off.
Security arrived and pulled people out, but Nikolina heard a wire snap.
"Everybody stop! Stand still, don't move a muscle." Nikolina yelled, everyone stopping dead in their tracks.
Security ignored her and kept pulling people out. After Flash had been pulled out, the elevator gave way and they started to fall. Nikolina used her telekinetic powers to try and stop the elevator, but they were moving too fast.
Instead, she combined her powers, both trying to stop the elevator and pushing airflow against it to make it stop.
Suddenly, they stopped. Then Peter flew into the elevator and they started to move again. Peter shot a web up to try and stop them, but the elevator was faster than the web.
Peter and Nikolina made eye contact and nodded before he shot another web and she combined her powers again.
As soon as Peter managed to stop the elevator, Nikolina fell to the floor, passed out. Both her nostrils were bleeding and she was knocked out.
Security opened up the floor they were at and everyone started to get out. Nikolina was still knocked out so Liz picked her up to help her out. Suddenly, the elevator started to fall again and Peter got ahold of Liz's wrist. But the momentum caused Liz to drop Nikolina.
"No!" Peter yelled, shooting webs down to try and get her. But she was too fast, and he was too slow. Peter couldn't do anything, and suddenly, he couldn't see her anymore. "No, no, no!"
He ran out and hurried down the building. There he saw Nikolina walking out. She was still bleeding from her nose, but she was alive.
He ran into her arms.
"I'm so sorry, I'll never let you go again." Peter rambled to her.
"Hey, it's okay. I got shocked or something and woke up and managed to slow the fall. I still got hit pretty bad but I'm alive at least." Nikolina said, burying her face in the crook of Peter's neck.
When they got back to Queens, May ran up to them and hugged them both tightly.
"Nikolina, what happened to your face?" May asked, touching Nikolina's bruised cheek.
"I fell." Nikolina shrugged, both her and Peter chuckling. It wasn't a laughing matter, but it was a little funny. At least to them.
