You loved your parents, but you did want to keep your work and personal life separate. It was a hard task when one of your dads was your boss. Kevin Cozner and Raymond Holt had adopted you when you were in your early teens, wanting to be fathers but also wanting the skip all the icky baby stuff. You loved them dearly and from that day on they were your family, a family you would never change. Since then you wanted to grow up and be like your Father Ray, becoming a police officer and soon being put into his precinct working for the 99th Precinct. No one knew you were related. Although your surname had been hyphenated when you were adopted by them, you and your fathers agreed it was best to just take your birth surname when working along with your father as to not let people know you were related.
It wasn't against the rules to work with family, but you didn't want anyone to assume you were given special treatment and wanted everyone to know your achievements were down to yourself, not your father being the Captain.
Although this did make it hard to separate work and pleasure, it was even harder when you started dating your co-worker Rosa Diaz. She was a generally private person so never asked about your family, and in turn you didn't ask about hers. She was also over the moon to hear you didn't want anyone else to know at work.
You didn't mean to keep a secret from Rosa or your fathers, however you didn't know how to tell them, so you left it a while. Your fathers knew you had a girlfriend, and were of course supportive, but it came to the point where you couldn't put off inviting her to dinner with them that they had insisted on.
Rosa was reluctant to go to meet your parents, not that she cared that you had two fathers rather than a mother, but she agreed to go as it was for you.
You had gone to pick her up from her apartment and drove her to your parents' house. From her expression, you were pretty sure she recognised where she was as she had been there to visit your father before.
Leading her into your home, as soon as she saw your fathers and they saw her... none of their expressions changed. None of them were overly expressive but from the slight twitch on Rosa's lips, and your Father's eye darting to your other father you knew they were both shocked.
"Dads, this is Rosa, my girlfriend, and Rosa these are my dad's. I know you all know each other but... surprise," you smiled cheerily, hoping none of them would be annoyed.
"Captain Holt," Rosa nodded, "Kevin."
"Diaz, please call me Raymond, you are dating my daughter after all," he stated.
"The call me Rosa seen as you're... fathering... my girlfriend."
Kevin gave you a sympathetic smile, taking your fathers hand.
"Show we sit down, dinner is ready."
