I was sitting in the garden, watching the cherubic sculpture spouting crystal clear water from its mouth, the rays of the sun hitting the clear water in the fountain made it look like it held thousands of diamond rather than water in it. Mrs. Montgomery, the wife of a very influential and wealthy aristocrat was prattling on and on and on about her daughter's engagement to a very rich and eligible lord and how the family was so thrilled to be hosting the event in the beautiful and majestic Carlisle mansion.I stifled a yawn as I saw my mother giving me a murderous glare. She wanted me to be just like her and my other siblings, a proper lady who's only purpose in life is to sit next to her husband and have no other position other then lying on her back and spreading her legs for him. The mere idea revolted me, however, my fate was already decided. I was to marry lord Richmond, it was a deal made by my father many years ago, I was to marry him in order for my father to gain a position as a minister in the king's counsel. I was just a commodity that was to be exchanged for favor.
After many years of fighting, I had finally given up. I knew eventually I had to marry lord Richmond even if he was 30 years older than me. Currently we were at a luncheon organized by my dear mother at Carlisle mansion or the place that I sometimes refer to as home.
"Ariela dear, you have barely eaten anything, is the food not as per your taste", I was jostled from my thoughts and for the first time looked at Mrs. Montgomery.
"I am not really hungry "I said shaking my head and refusing.
"Oh look, I see lord Richmond making his way here towards our small gathering, I believe that he is here to see his fiancé" I heard another lady say in her shrilly annoying voice. The idea of seeing lord Richmond disgusted me. I tried to leave the table but I felt my mother clutching my hands rather painfully underneath the table and therefore keeping me rooted to my seat.
I turned my attention to the two men making their way towards us. They were at distance but I could easily identify the short stature of lord Richmond. The man was very short and had a protruding belly. I glanced away not really interested in having any civil conversation with my future husband, I would rather eat dirt than speak to him.
"Lord Richmond, I hope you are enjoying yourself, isn't it a very lovely day?" asked my mother. Her sickly sweet tone made me almost scoff. Almost.
"Yes indeed lady Carlisle, everything is very delicious and lovely." Lord Richmond said, in his usual nasally tone. His voice grated my nerves. I was still looking at the fountain refusing to look at that man.
"I would like you to meet my business associate lord Azrael, he is one of the biggest exporter of silk and spices. Lord. Azrael, this is lady Carlisle the beautiful hostess and that is lady Ariela, my fiancé.", lord Richmond finished his introduction. I had no intentions of acknowledging his presence but a painful pinch from my mother, jostled me and I snapped my attention towards my mother, glaring at her. God I hate this woman.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, lady Carlisle and lady Ariela." I heard a deep and powerful voice speak. When he spoke, I swear to god all other surrounding noise ceased to exist. I could no longer hear the chirping of the birds, the rustling of leaves or the clattering and clinking of my mother's expensive china wear. Just his warm and hypnotic voice.
I turned to look at him and what I saw took my breath away. The light wind was caressing and moving his beautiful blonde almost white hair, they were so light that the sunlight falling on them made it look like pure white gold. He looked as if god had taken special care to make him perfect. He had a flawless complexion and the palest ice blue eyes, they looked almost silver in some angles. I felt my heart thud painfully against my chest and for a second I was really worried that I was having a heart attack as I was staring at his perfect features, my eyes taking him in and stopping at his lips. I felt my mother tighten her hold on me. That thankfully distracted me enough to stop my rude staring.
I looked away, is it even possible for some one to be so tall? He looked very dashing in his tailored suit, Mr. Richmond to be honest looked like a pauper in front of him. Who is he?
My heart was still hammering against my rib cage and I was feeling a bit faint. What is wrong with me? My breathing started to quicken and I was feeling rather hot and uncomfortable.
I took one last look at the most beautiful creature in the world before I fainted.
I woke up with a start, my alarm clock blaring annoyingly in the background. My heart was pounding like crazy against my chest and I was breathing hard almost as if I ran a marathon. Did I just have a nightmare? I don't remember anything but whenever I close my eyes I see a pair of pale ice blue eyes staring back at me. The mark of Azrael on my arm was tingling. Looking at the digital clock in my room, I sighed. Its 7:00 pm, time to get ready for work.
I am an elite level reaper, not only me but all my friends are. So what distinguishes us from other reapers is that we take on cases which involves gruesome death. Yes, its not the best job but I swear the perks are amazing (yes I am being sarcastic). Statistics show that 90% of unnatural and horrible deaths happen under the cover of the night and therefore we have such odd timings, my shift starts at 8pm and ends at 4 am.
I feel as if I am forgetting something very important. I get up from my bed and rush towards the bathroom to get ready, I have an hour to leave, as soon as I step inside the bathroom, I give out a blood curdling scream. There is a naked man inside my bathroom! A damn good looking man with amazing shoulders, chest, abs, I stop my eyes from straying anywhere else. Wait why is there a naked man in my bathroom?
I fix a hard glare on my face and look straight at his smirking face and all the events of last night comes crashing down on me. Oh how did I forget about Blake and the stupid adjoining bathroom predicament.
"Oh please continue staring, why don't you take a picture while you are at it". He said, not even bothering to hide or look abit uncomfortable.
"Sure, thank you", I remove my phone from the pocket of my sweats and make an action of clicking a photo. "You know, why should I be the only one enjoying this view, I will just go and show this to everyone. I bet they will appreciate this" I took few steps towards the bathroom door but before I could open it, I was pushed against it. I whirled around to curse him out but was in loss of words when I saw how close his face was to mine. His eyes were burning green, his hair still dripping from the shower. Wait! Is he even wearing a towel? On their own accord my eyes travelled south and I quickly shut my eyes when my suspicion was confirmed. Nope not wearing one.
"Florence you really don't want to make me your enemy", He whispered, so close to my face, I could smell the spearmint in his breathe. His hands were caressing my arms, moving up and down. I felt the hair on the back of my neck rise with awareness. I hate this. "Besides my body is a luxury that not everyone can afford to look at."
His words finally broke the seal over my lips.
"Just lock the damn door next time and get out I need to get ready." I said stonily, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of reacting on his previous statement.
His face swooped in closer, now his lips were just a hairs width away from mine. Suddenly I felt like running my hands over his shoulder and feel his powerful physique.
Thankfully before I gave into my urge. He pushed himself off the door and went to the wardrobe to get a clean linen to dry himself off with, I gave him his privacy by going back to my room and sorting my clothes. I re-entered the bathroom to see him still there drying his hair. What an annoying piece of poop.
Finally, when he was done obsessing over his hair, I am exaggerating, all he did was dry it with the hair dryer. I finally got the bathroom to myself. But he had to say something before he left.
"You know you will be my greatest accomplishment. I will break you Florence." I knew from the way he spoke that he didn't mean that he will harm me physically.
"To be honest, you are not even that good looking, I have seen way better" I replied sounding bored.
"Yes in your dreams." He said before walking out of the bathroom.
I didn't realize how true he really was at that time. I have really seen a better looking man in my dream.
