I stopped outside the door to the new room and wiped my tears. I turned to see if he was still there but he wasn't. I guess he really did want me to get away from him. His words really hurt. I bit my lip to stop from crying but no matter how hard I bite down the tears kept coming. The door opened and I turned around to wipe my face and the blood from my lip.
"Are done moving your things?"
I tried to walk away but he grabbed me.
"Hey, I'm talking to you."
"Oh, you are?"
"There isn't anyone else out there so yeah I am."
I looked around. He was right no one was out here.
"What happen to your lip?"
I was getting annoyed with him.
"I bet it."
"Why?"
Annoying his question I yanked my arm from him and started to walk away.
"The hell? I see why my father didn't choose you."
I turned around to look at him.
"What are you talking about?"
"You're childish. All you had to do was tell me what's wrong."
"What if I don't want to tell you, Joseph? It's not that easy!"
His hardened face softened. Then he reached out and pulled me into a hug. What was he doing?
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I just don't want you hurt. So whatever it is please tell me."
He let me go and walked back. Why he had to do that?
I looked down and started pinching my fingers.
"Um... Allen. He told me to get away from him so I'm going to stay away from him from now on."
"Did he hit you?"
"No, I just bit my lip because I hated that he made me cry. I mean I don't even know the guy."
More tears fell. Why was he so easy to talk to? He wiped my tears away with his thumb. I wanted him to close the space between us but he didn't.
"I'm sorry. I'll talk to him ok?"
"Ok."
"I'll make sure he doesn't hurt you again."
He dropped his hand and began to walk down the hall which lead outside.
"I hope he comes to my aid when I'm crying."
When the hell did she open the door?
"Hahaha, you get scared so easily. There's one more thing General Shepard wanted me to ask you. He told me to ask you if you can please go see him."
Maybe the general knew why Allen freaked out and why he put him on my team.
"Ok."
"Ok as in you don't care or ok as I'm going?"
"I'm going to talk to him now."
"You want me to come with you?"
"No it's fine I'll go by myself I have questions anyway."
"Well... alright."
I stopped just outside General Shepard's door. Why was I hesitating to open the door?
"So you finally came."
I jumped then head further down the hall. I don't know what for. The only other person in this building was his brother. I headed there any way I know he never be in his office.
"Come back here, Scarlet."
Surprisingly the door was unlocked. I walked up to his desk. Pictures? This must be his family. I saw four picture frames faced down. I picked one up. Who was this guy? His son? I picked up another one and saw a little girl. She looks kinda like Joseph and someone else but I can't put my finger on it.
"What are you doing in here?"
I turned around to look at him. Then back at the girl in the picture.
"That's Ren my youngest."
"You have a child!?"
He smiled.
"No the.. two."
I could have sworn he was going to say three. I heard footsteps coming closer I knew it was the Lieutenant General. I quickly put the pictures down. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw at least five bottles of whiskey under his desk.
"What are you doing in here brother?"
I ran up to hide behind the general.
"And what the hell are you doing in here?"
Damn it he saw me.
I looked at him and smiled. He met my smile with a frown. Like always. I only met him two an a half weeks ago how could he hate me so much?
He walked closer to us and looked me in the eye.
"Get her out of my sight."
"Let's go Scarlet."
I followed him out.
"Don't worry about him he is going through a lot."
"What do you mean," I asked sitting on the couch.
He sat beside me.
"He lost a son and I lost a daughter."
"Oh. Is that why he treats everyone like that?"
"Pretty much."
"But the way he treats me h-he..."
"I know Scarlet. Don't over think it. Everyone goes through grief differently."
"Well, are you ok?"
"I'm fine Scar don't worry about me or anyone else worry about your goals and how you going to achieve them."
I need to ask him two more questions.
"Was your daughter in Lunar as well?"
"Yes."
"You never talked about her. All this time I thought I was the youngest."
"Hard to talk about stuff like that."
"Well, what about Allen? Everyone says he was the cause of their death. Is that...."
"No. Don't you have to get back there?"
"Why would I need to do that?"
"So you can get ready to go home."
"Oh well, that guy you paired me with is actually really mean he said we have to train instead of going home."
"Well, I'm sure he had a good reason."
"It's not a good enough reason."
"My son can be a bit much at times."
Son?
"Wait for what?"
He shoved me off the couch then walked me to the door.
"Run along now."
Now that I think about it he did say father when we were arguing. He shut the door in my face. How many kids does he have?
Is everyone sleep already? I opened the door and saw Trisha sleeping wild. As usual. I crawled into my cold bed. My chest began to ache again where my scar was. Thinking back to my dream everything that happened felt so real. It seems every month since I can remember I have a dream about me running from something and chains and a cat thing. Does it really mean something? Now that I think about it it happens on every full moon. Ok, I'm just over thinking it. I need to sleep now so I can have enough energy tomorrow.
