"We need to spy on them and find any flaws Life might have. There are three buildings we can set up on. Now since we don't have access to the roof of these buildings we need to do extra work. There are businesses that have access to the roof of the three buildings we need to do extra work. There are businesses that have access to the roof of only two buildings. When I was here a few months ago I saw the same cleaning company use keys to access both buildings the third one we will have to break in. When you see their employees take their key discretely. That key will have their ID and code to access the doors. Bring it back to this room. I'll make new keys and IDs identical to theirs but have a face, name and such that matches your description. We will only meet here if it's important. We all have separate missions that we need to focus on."
"What will you do?"
Jeremy asked his fifth question and Trisha was spinning around in a rolling chair. I haven't asked one even though I wanted to. Not about the mission but about him. Instead, I bit my tongue.
"I will figure out how we will get into the third building. Scarlet, I want you to help me with that. I'll also be here getting the information and planning our next move. I'll also have the uniforms ready. When you all have everything you will take the place of the usual person. But first, handle that person who comes in. Don't kill them. Only if you have to. If the company has problems improvise."
Trisha and Jeremy left to start looking for people who could have the key. Allen leaned on the wall and ran his hand through his dark brown hair. I stopped biting my tongue and smiled at him.
"Ok, I see what you're doing. You just want me all to yourself."
He cocked an eyebrow then he pushed off the wall smiling and walked towards me.
"And what if I did?"
I really should have never tried to flirt with him. I don't know what I should say next. He studied me for a bit then laid on the bed next to me. Why was he just looking at the ceiling? He glanced over at me an I quickly tore my gaze away to study my hands. His eyes weren't on me anymore so I laid my head on his chest and slung my leg over his waits.
He placed his hand on my lower back. I could hear his heart beating faster again.
"Why can't we stay like this?"
"You forgetting about him already?"
"No no, I just...... after this is over you wanna go somewhere?"
"Like where?"
"Where have you been?"
"Nowhere really. My mom uses to make ships and hats out of my dad's empty liquor bottles. We use to pretend we're going somewhere. The day she told me she has never seen the ocean was the day I promised her and myself I would take her."
I knew he broke that promise. I didn't want him to dwell on the past so I told him about one of the few trips I remembered going on when I was little. After that, we talked about our favorite candy.
Before we knew it the sky turned a pink-orange. We talked for hours about the little things. We forgot why we came and what we needed to do. For a short time, I was happy. I felt normal and I liked it. Apart of me wanted to ask him to run away with me but then a part of me longed for Joseph. I became sleepy-eyed but before we closed our eyes there was a knock on our door.
He jumped out of my arms leaving me confused and concern. Looking through the peephole he gave me a thumbs up and told me to get up. I tried to fix the bed before he unlocked the. They came barging in. For some reason I was nervous.
I looked outside at the dark sky. It's already dark? How long have we be laying there?
"We got separate rooms even though I don't see why we need them."
"Trisha was holding two key cards to the hotels."
"Are they far enough apart?"
"Yep."
She put one key in her pocket and gave the other one to Jeremy. We helped them pack their things and put them in the taxi.
"I kinda feel like he putting us out to spend time with just you."
"No he is right we need to work separately. He said I will get my own room too."
Trisha leaned back and looked over at me. Her brown hair covered her face as she nodded.
"I just don't want to leave you. If you ever want to leave we can."
"We have to get him back."
"I know. I just feel like it shouldn't be us. We don't have the experience.
"If we don't do it now we never will. This is what we been training for."
"We didn't even do the last test. Who knows how we will react. One slip up and we all could be dead."
"Your right. So no mistakes. We do everything we can to get him back if now fail at least we tried."
"I wouldn't want to die with anyone else."
She hugged me and picked up her last bag. We walked to the taxi. I'm sure he was pissed because we were taking so long but Trisha promised more money so he calmed down. She let go of my hand and looked back one last time. I teared up as the taxi disappeared.
"Are those tears for me?"
Jeremy gave me a tight hug.
"We will be ok. We will see each other soon."
He let go and got into the taxi. More tears fell and I felt an arm around my waist. He put his head on mine and pulled me closer.
"I didn't mean to make you cry. We can stay together if you want."
"No, It's ok."
He turned me around and wiped my tears.
"Come on let's go."
