Old Wonds

The meeting started earlier than Allen had expected.

"There you two are."

Jeremy waved me over and I sat by him.

"Where's Trisha?"

I looked at him confused then realized that she was in General Shepard's office. Guilt started forming in my stomach. I took my anger out on her. I'm sure she would be fine..... maybe not. I said worse things to her. She should be alright.

"So Allen since you're a good sniper you're going

to stay our sniper. If you can handle it."

He was looking at Allen like he wanted to kill him or something. I'm pretty sure I was missing something.

"Jeremy you're our brains so you will be our tech guy. Handle all the electronics such as drones and computers and find out as much information as you can about the enemy. Scarlet."

I jumped a little when he called my name. I used to be in trouble.

"You will be my shadow."

I guess my expression gave away what I was thinking.

"You will be by my side always. Have my back and I'll have yours."

"Why?"

"You question my decision?"

"Well, its just me and Trisha we always had each other's backs."

"Well, it's not just you and Trisha anymore."

I looked down and said "Right."

The door opened and Trisha walked in.

"Wow, this room is so much better than our last one."

She looked around in awe until our eyes meet. A smile small but sad broke out on her face.

"Just in time. Trisha am I right?"

"Yes, sir."

"You're going to be our doc."

She looked just as confused as I was but thinking about it that was a smart move.

As though he read my mind he began to say "you learn fast and you are good at everything so you might as well concentrate on our wounds since we don't have someone who's good at it."

"Hmmm, he's hot and smart," Trisha mumbled as she walked towards me.

Exactly what I was thinking.

"How did it go?" I whispered.

"What the meeting I had with General Shepard?"

"Yeah."

"He just said to tell you he thinks you're not ready and you're too young so he put you with someone who he thinks can protect you."

"I'm not young."

"You're 16," Jeremy said rolling his eyes.

Ok maybe he was right about me being too young to risk my life but I was sure I could do it...... I think.

"It's ok Scarlet risking your life is a big deal you should stop shrugging it off like its nothing. It's not your job to protect everyone you meet."

I felt like it was though. I feel the need to protect everyone.

I said "ok" knowing that the answer wasn't going to be enough for her.

She started to say something else but our leader cut her off.
