ArianaI'd fallen asleep soon after arriving to the motel. After a few hours, I was woken up by Jason shaking my shoulders.
"What?" I mumbled, turning over so I was on my belly.
"It's three in the morning. We're leaving now to be ahead of time in case anything happens," He states in a hushed voice.
"Fine, but I'm taking this blanket. You can pay the motel extra for it," I said, not really caring anymore. My eyes were still half closed as I sat up.
Unfortunately I was still in the same dirty clothes I came in. I sighed, holding the blanket tighter around my body to develop some warmth for when we temporarily step outside.
Together, in one big group, we all made our way to the exit. At this time of morning, only guests could enter and exit. Luckily, the front desk was closed. All the boys left their keys in their rooms to save any havoc. Once my foot stepped out into the cold air, I let out a big yawn.
"You tired little one?" Trent asked, throwing his arm over my shoulder. I nodded my head, leaning into him slightly.
"You look like a little bunny when you first wake up," He added, making me smile. I brought my hand out of the blanket to whack him in the chest.
"I look like death. I need to change clothes, brush my hair and clean my teeth."
"I know, you're breath is disgusting," He teased.
"Shut up ugly, go pluck you're eyebrows."
"Excuse me little girl, my eyebrows are on fleek. They are on point. They are slaying," He said, snapping a finger.
"I worry about you sometimes," I said, looking up at him with a playful look.
"As much as I'd to stay and chat about my eyebrow lady who keeps them in check, I think you should go to Jason before he stabs me. He's giving me them creepy devil eyes," He told me, whispering the part about Jason.
I sighed, knowing I'd get some sort of lecture. With heavy footsteps, I walked over to Jason. I stood with him until one of his 'workers' brought his car around. We both got in together and waited until everyone else was loaded up before taking off.
The night sky was speckled with stars. The moon wasn't shinning as bright as usual, making the air feel eery. The road was covered with early-morning mist. Non the less, there was something so sickly beautiful about the scary scene. Maybe it was the heir of mystery, or the fact people drunkenly walked the streets in fits of laughter without knowing what dangerous are lurking in the shadows.
"Do you like night time?" Jason asked, glancing over at me. I rolled my head on the seat so I was facing him a little more.
"Yes and no. I like that there are so many things out there that are unknown to us, hiding. But then, I don't like it because whats hiding could hurt us. I guess I'm just a curious person," I said, being honest.
"I prefer night time in the winter."
"Why?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"Sort of the same reason as you, but sort of different. Like, the darkness holds so many secrets. But under a bit of light, all that's there is pure, white snow. It's odd to me, but I enjoy the difference. Summer is so overrated, especially for people like me who don't tan and just get burnt then go back to normal," He rolled his eyes at his last statement, making me giggle to myself.
"I think summer would be my least favourite season for the same reason. Everyone knows what to expect in summer. I enjoy spring, but the pollen in the air gets to me. Autumn and winter are my favourites. There's something about watching the leaves and snow fall to the ground that calms me."
"You know, we have a lot more in common than you think," He said, patting my knee.
I nodded my head, leaving the conversation at that before I exploded with how much I dislike him for ruining my life.
"You're not as quiet as I thought you were," He continued speaking.
"Well, I have a voice, why not use it? I mean, I have nothing to lose now."
I saw him take a deep breath in. His jaw clenched, his eyebrows furrowed as a small frown fell onto his face. Looking at the wheel, I could see his fingers going white from clutching it so hard.
"Can I swap cars?"
"Absolutely not. Who else could you possible ride with?" He asked, his voice deep and spilling with anger.
"Trent. I just- He makes me feel more comfortable," I mumbled.
"How so?"
"He says that I remind him of his little sister and I guess that's how he's been treating me. He protected me at the house when you didn't and even though we're not in a very safe or happy position, he still joked around with me."
"Whatever," He grumbled. He wound down the window and did a sign with his hand. Once we were in a clear patch, we pulled over. Everyone surprisingly followed.
"He's in the car right behind us. Go before I change my mind."
I opened the door, making sure the blanket was still wrapped around me. As I got out, I wrapped it in my arms a little more so it didn't drag on the ground. I waddled over to the other car as quickly as I could. As I approached it, the back door slid open, revealing almost a full load of people. More importantly, Trent was sitting in the back.
"Ariana, what are you doing?" He asked, jumping from his seat to help me in.
"I wanted to ride with you," I said quietly, not liking all the eyes on me.
All the people in here were tall, well built men. Their faces held stern looks as they peered at me. They were scaring me.
Trent helped me step into the car and brought me to the back row of seats. I filled the space between him and another man.
"Was Jason doing something bad?" He asked, putting an arm over my shoulders.
"He was just getting cranky easy and trying to make conversation. I guess I made him think I wanted to talk because I kept replying."
"Don't worry about him now. You need some sleep."
I leant my body against him. He ended up adjusting me so I was laying with my head in his lap. Once hand sat on my hip, the other twisting and playing with my hair.
"My sister use to love me doing this with her hair. It made her fall asleep so quickly," He admitted.
"I can tell, feels great," I mumbled out, my eyes already shut.
With the calming, dead silence and pleasure from my head getting tickled, my body relaxed into the seat. My mind almost instantly shut off as I fell into yet another much needed slumber.
Bit of a short little filler chapter.
