Jason

"Nice to see you too, Jase," He smirked. I felt my eyes twitch at the sheer thought that he thinks it's okay to call me that.

"I heard you were looking for me. What is it you want?" I cut to the chase as he sat down, his few little minions copying his movements.

"Ah, that's no way to speak to family," He urged. My arms tensed, wanting nothing more than to reach forward and grab him by the throat. I think I would've just about done it too, until I felt little fingers wrap around my bicep.

Looking down, I see Ariana glaring up at me. Her eyes were wide and glistening and there was a crease of a frown between her brows. I sighed, letting myself calm down.

My eyes met the disgusting excuse of a man before me as I began shaking my head. The words "I have no family," slipped so easily from my lips.

"Then who is she?" I knew exactly who he was speaking of. If he merely looked at her wrong, I'd jump over this table and have his head on a stick.

"Fuck off, that's not why we're here. I'm here to find out what it is you want," I spat out.

"I need a favour-" Before he could continue, I had scoffed and muttered "of course you do."

"You'd wanna get rid of that smart mouth boy," He said, I watched as his eyes narrowed. I didn't nothing but cackle in his face.

"You think your threats scare me? I'd dare you to try something but you'd embarrass yourself."

"I heard you're on the run and had a bit of a scuffle with an old friend of mine."

"Did you send them?" I was quick to ask. He knew of the attack. That was enough to have a few speculations.

"No, of course not. Why would I do that to my own nephew? Now, on to the business. I know who attacked you. I know you want them dead and I also know where they are. I'll give you all this information if you agree to get something for me."

I looked at him for a brief moment, before shaking my head and standing up. I pulled Ariana's small frame with me, holding her close.

"I don't do shit for anyone, especially someone like you."

"Let's get the fuck outta here," I added, making the disgust in my tone evident.

Just as I went to step away, I stopped at the small yet dangerous statement, "what about the girl?"

"Yeah, what about her?"

"Why are you so... adamant on hiding her from me? If you didn't want me to see her, you should've left her at home."

"I don't need to hide anything from you. You're not a risk to me what-so-ever."

"Maybe not to you, but I certainly am to her."

Ariana

Jason's right grip on my frame released in an instant. It was so sudden I almost collapsed into the floor. However before I could, a large hand met the bottom of my back. I look up and see Trent standing there.

"While you guys were on your way here, one of our boys hacked their phones. Apparently they are ready to attack if Jason shows any signs of intimidation towards his uncle. We organised to have everyone here in case anything goes down," He whispered quickly, yet firmly into my ear.

Hearing a smash, I adverted my attention back to Jason. He was standing there with a heaving, risen chest while his hands clenched tightly at his sides. The man in front of him held his nose as it poured with blood. By the broken glass on the table, I could infer that Jason must've smashed his head on it.

I went to step forward to pull him back, as if to protect him of any harm. But Trent stopped me.

"Don't. Move."

Everyone stood there in a pit of silence for a moment, just reflecting on what happened.

"You won't ever get close enough to touch her. I'm wasting my time here. Let's go," Jason fired out, turning around and stalking out, leaving me there in a bundle of fear and confusion.

Without another word, Trent pretty much carried me out of the building before another exchange of actions or words could take place. Once my feet met the roads pavement, I began asking questions.

"Where's Jason? Why didn't he wait for me?" I asked, observing that his car wasn't here.

"I'm not sure Ari," He answered.

"Why did he just leave me? Can we find him?"

"Ariana, I know as much as you do. I won't be able to answer anything until we get back, okay? I just need you to get into my car and sit quietly. Can you do that?"

Clenching my bottom lip between my teeth, I nodded my head as I realised I was acting irrationally. I just needed to stay calm and wait for the answers to come to me.
