The next day Adrien decided to tell his father the name of the girl he chose to marry and ask Marinette's father for her hand in marriage. He knew that his father will more than likely try to change his mind or try to convince him to choose someone else as a bride, but his heart was set on Marinette and he would not leave his father's office without his approval of her.
Adrien stood before his father's office door and knocked.
- Yes, enter.
He opened the door slowly and entered. The office was a small room compared to the rest of the house. As you entered the first thing you saw was the windowed back wall and the large desk facing the door. It was perfectly positioned so that when you worked at the desk the light would come directly from behind, illuminating the papers perfectly. Also, whoever came in the room would need a few seconds to adjust to the light before being able to see Mister Agreste properly. Giving M. Agreste an advantage and a position of superiority. Two chairs were placed on the other side of the desk for people to sit.
His father was at his desk looking over some documents when he looked up to see who entered.
- Ah, Adrien, I was expecting you. Have you made your choice of who will be your bride?
- Yes, father, I have chosen someone. But before I tell you who it is I want you to remember that you said I could choose any one of the girls you invited to the ball.
- Yes, I certainly did...
His father said with a questioning look.
- I also ask that you do not interrupt me while I speak and that you wait until I will be finished before you comment.
- All right, I will. So now tell me who you have chosen Adrien I do not have all day.
- I choose Marinette Dupain-Chang as my wife to be. I know that you might not approve of her because her family doesn't have the same social status as us and I know that you only invited them to the ball to be polite, but I love her, father; and I will not choose anyone else to spend the rest of my life with.
Adrien didn't want to see his father's face, afraid of the disappointment or the anger he could see in his eyes. So, he seared at the paper on the desk.
- Very well, I will arrange to meet her parents.
Adrien looked up at his father who had a small smile on his face. He couldn't believe his father approved of his choice.
- R..really! you're not going to try to change my mind? You are ok with me marrying Marinette!?
Gabriel got up from his chair and went towards where Adrien was standing in shock. He placed a hand on his shoulder and spoke.
- Son, I saw the way you looked at her at the ball and Nathaly informed me that you spent a lot more time with the young lady in the following weeks. So, I did my research on her. She is a very cultured lady, is extremely appreciated by the town people for her kindness and is even interested in fashion. Her family might not be rich, but they are respected by many. I saw the look on your face when you are with her, it is obvious that you love her; I would know, I had the same look around your mother. I know I have been strict at times but really do love you and want the best for you.
Adrien had tears in his eyes and hugged him.
- Thank you, father, I love you too.
After obtaining his father's approval, Adrien finally got to the Dupain-Chang house. He remembered Marinette saying that she wasn't sure if he had proposed to her and decided to make it clear to her that he wanted to spend the rest of his life by her side. After sitting down with Marinette and her father, he asked:
- Sir, I will go straight to why I came. I wish to ask you for your daughter's hand.
