Back home, Adrien's dad, Sir Gabriel Agreste confronted him on once again for wandering off and disappearing without a trace.
- Adrien I can't have you bringing shame on the family's name by getting in trouble. Where were you this time?
- Forgive me father, I stopped to look at a shop and when I looked back Nathalie was out of sight. While I was looking for her, I bumped into a lovely lady and kind of lost track of time.
- Well then, since you keep disobeying me and want to make decisions of your own, I will arrange a formal party to find you a wife among the daughters of the wealthier families. After you get married into a good family you can do whatever you want with your life. You can choose any girl from the ones I invited but I will not have it any other way.
Didn't he just hear what I said, getting lost means disobeying him? And now he wants to find me a wife, just when I started getting a little more freedom. He thought to himself.
- But father...
He tried to complain before he got interrupted.
- I didn't finish. This decision is not up for discussion. I think I have already compromised enough. The ball will be held exactly a month from today, on Saturday and this is final. Nataly, have a list ready by the end of the day for me to approve and we shall start sending the invitations tomorrow.
He left without another look at his son.
Adrien knew very well that it would be a hard decision to make, but it was the price for getting him out of his father's cage and he was willing to pay it. He still really wished to see Marinette again. There was something about her that felt... comfortable.
_____ _____ _____ (Time skip)
A few days later while he was patrolling the streets at night, as chat noir, he saw a suspicious light and just as it disappeared behind a building he managed to see Marinette's face looking back. Unfortunately, he wasn't the only one to spot her; two guards that were out watching the streets also saw the light and started chasing whoever it was.
Marinette's p.o.v.:
She knew that she wasn't supposed to be out at this hour and that it was really dangerous. If her parents knew, she would be in big trouble. All she had to light her way in the dark streets was a little candle. Marinette tried to be as silent as possible but after hiding behind a building she heard rushing steps coming her way.
- You there stop.
The guards shouted while running after her.
She started to run when a strong hand grabbed her arm and pulled her into a dark alley. As she was about to scream for help a second hand covered her mouth and the first one wrapped around her abdomen securing her so she couldn't move. Marinette tried to escape, but she had her back to the man holding her hostage and she couldn't see if he was armed... or alone. A moment later the guards ran past them without noticing her in the dark alley. At least she didn't have to worry about them, she thought. That's when the man still holding her whispered in her ear:
- If I let you go, do you promise not to run purrincess? And don't scream either, they might still hear you.
Adrien felt her previously stiff body relax in his arms at the sound of his voice. He liked that, a lot. It meant she trusted him or at least felt at eases around him. All the tension and fear in Marinette's body left as she gave a small nod. It was no other than Chat Noir, the mysterious man in the mask who saved her a few days prior. He let her go and she turned to face him.
