Nina pov
Before normal wake up time, my mind was on full alert. Something wasn't right. Jack's clock flashed 4:52. I should be tiered, bit instead I'm up and ready to train some new kids. I leaned over to Jack and surprisingly find that he's awake. "Hey, can you help me set up a few things?" I ask him siting up and rubbing an eye. "Yeah sure." he said not looking at me. "What do you need?"
"After you get dressed, go down to that tree where Victor always sits. ask him if he would help you get some stuff from the storage shed, he has the keys. just drag all the hand to hand combat stuff out and I'll meet you there? ok?" I say sitting crisscross. Jack kisses me before getting out of bed. "On it." I get up too. "Take a shower." I say before closing the door, and bolting down the hall to dads room. I let myself in and find Logan sprawled out on the couch. No wonder he didn't want me on it. He looked calmer in his sleep, almost peaceful. If it wasn't for the six pack of beer that was on the floor next to him. I presume it is empty. I have to talk about that...
I sneak around him and into the bathroom. After taking a quick shower, I dressed in some training clothes. An old tank top, complete with a hole and blood stain above my liver area, and shorts with at least twenty holes in them. I walk around dad once more, aiming for the door, but I don't make it before his alarm clock starts beeping. 5:15. Dad springs up, stumbles a bit and opens his eyes, but not before unsheathing his claws and taking a swing at my head. I duck in time and say, "Wake up! It's only me. I had to borrow your shower." I say sprinting to the door. "borrow someone else's shower." Was the last thing I heard before the door closed.
Everyone needs a bit of variety in their lives from time to time. So instead of taking the stairs, I jumped out a window. Jack's window. The Professor doesn't mind my actions, but anything I break I fix, and I have to encourage students who can't fly or heal as fast as I can, to not jump. I know, he is very considerate.
I find Jack and Victor out hauling stuff from the nearby shed. They had foam padding, foam stuff to practice on, a mounted foam dummie, everything you could possibly need. Except a mini fridge, which would be awesome. They even had a... helmet? A closer look told me it was my helmet. my old one. Purple with sparkles, I decorated myself. "Where did you find this? I've been looking for years!" I ask among the helmet, thrilled. "Top shelf. Along with many jars of fruit." Jack answered sticking his hands in his gray hoodie pockets, and the memories came rushing back.
When I was eleven, I hid my helmet so I wouldn't have to wear one, like dad. I hid it he day we were storing canned peaches. And then I forgot about it over the next seven years. I set the helmet by the tree after lugging a foam mannequin over a hill. When I turned around I saw Muffin and almost had a heart attack. He was right behind me. With his creepy little rabbit stare. Shuffling away slowly, my pocket vibrates. A reminder to wake up students at six. It was 5:47. "Bunny, stay with Victor. I'll be back" I directed at the small brown rabbit. It hopped over and sniffed his shoe. Just by the look on his face I could tell that he wanted to kick it. "Victor don't kill my bunny, he's a pet." I said before dragging Jack off towards the mansion. After we were a decent distance away from Victor I asked, "Why were you up so early?"
He shrugged I off. "No reason, I couldn't sleep." Stopping and putting a hand on his shoulder, I say, "you know you can tell me anything, right?" he nods. "yeah, same here. I'll tell you later." Sensing that he didn't want to talk about it, I dropped the subject and found a new one. "So, do you want to have Lyrica or Lucas punch you?"
"What kind of question is that? I mean, who would even say that?" I hopped over a bush almost landing on a stray soccer ball. Stupid kids can't put anything away. My phone buzzes once more. There is apparently a gunman in central park, down there in the city. Boring. Call me when theres a natural disaster. Those are my fav. Shoving the phone back into my back pocket, I drop kick it the ball, and thankfully don't hit a window. It did however land in the fountain. Not good, but it's not my problem now, is it.
