My knee bounces nervously as we sit in my private music room and listen to the cheers coming from the gathered audience in the auditorium. They had taken all the chairs out of the bottom floor of the auditorium and left it open for people to come stand in, whilst the top floor was reserved seating.

Apparently, this was the first of six public performances we do in this competition, this being the first.

Ashton is practicing on the electric drumkit whilst Luke and Mikey are standing in the corner playing their guitars and chatting at the same time whilst Calum sits next to me, staring at his phone as he scrolls through his twitter page.

I begin tapping out a random beat on my knees as Nickelback plays in the background and I sing along to it, keeping my vocal chords warmed up for the performance. Since I won the previous competition, we got the privilege to go last, which I was clearly not happy about.

The rehearsal yesterday morning went smoothly, and we managed to figure out the harmonies required to make the song even better than it was before.

A knock rings through the room followed by the door opening and a stagehand telling us that we're on in five.

I don't acknowledge his words verbally, but I stand up, walk over to the stand where my guitar waits patiently, pick it up and sling the strap over my shoulder before plugging the feedback pods into my ears and rolling my neck in preparation.

Ash takes this opportunity to approach me slowly, drumsticks in hand as he says calmly, "You ready to go?"

I turn my attention to him and with a small smile I say, "Always."

He holds out his hand for a fist bump that I roll my eyes at before pressing my fist against his and chuckling quietly. He grins broadly as Luke, Mikey and Calum walk over with their respective instruments and they all start giving each other a round of fist bumps, hi-fives and even a few good luck hugs.

I shake my head with a small smile and walk through the middle of the group towards the door that was left open. The band walks along behind me as we march towards the sound of the screaming audience but take a quick left before the door that lead out into the auditorium and walk down the hall that leads backstage.

We stand side stage as our small battery packs are turned on and connected to the large mixer station as Carly begins to finish her set with her mentor group Hey Violet.

I smile as her song ends and the crowd goes wild. Carly steps out from behind her keyboard and walks centre stage before taking a bow with the lead singer of the band and walking back off stage as the curtains close.

The stagehands quickly go and clear the stage of any mess before signalling us to take our spots.

Calum stands on my left whilst Luke stands on my right and Mikey stands on the furthest spot to the right. Ashton takes his place at the drumkit and quickly adjusts a few things on the kit before giving me a thumbs up and short wink.

The lights then dim on stage as the MC walks out and starts hyping up the crowd for the final song of the evening and the curtains begin to open behind him.
