"You still haven't got your song?" Ashton asks as he hands me a glass of water and sits down in the couch across from me.
Luke casually has his arm slung over my shoulders as Mikey and Calum sit on the floor and play FIFA on the big screen in front of us. The sun is streaming in through the clear glass windows that line the full wall as the beams heat the room at a comfortable temperature.
I sigh slightly and nod in reply as he mutters to himself about how irresponsible some people are. I find myself chuckling slightly but stop abruptly when my phone begins to ring and stirs me out of my casual daze.
I immediately answer it and am greeted by the voice of Tyler who immediately begins to apologize profusely for the interruption. "Nah mate it's fine. What's the matter?"
"Oh well, I've finished the song and was wondering if you'd like to hear the way I've done it so you can change it to how you like it." He says politely.
Luke nudges my shoulder and asks who it is I'm talking too, but I just hold up a finger and reply to Tyler, "Sure, I'll be there in a sec. Give me like, ten minutes."
"Okay, I'll meet you at my music room. Bye." He chuckles before ending the call.
I slide my phone back into the pocket of my jacket as Luke presses for an answer again, "Who was that Shay?"
"No one. Just the person who is writing my song. He wants me to come over so I can hear the song." I explain with a simple shrug of my shoulders.
"You're going to his house?" He asks, beginning to get on my nerves.
"No Luke. I'm meeting him at his music room." I reply as I look to my boyfriend in a confused manner.
He tries to cover his scowl by turning away from me in agitation but I immediately grab his chin and force him to look at me as I say, "You can come if you want you weird child. Why are you getting so worked up?"
"You've been talking to him a lot lately and it's been getting on my nerves." He says honestly.
I burst out laughing and pretend to wipe tears from my eyes as Ashton chimes in and says, "Is Lukey being a bit jealous?"
He scoffs in dismissal and stands from the couch before storming out of the room causing Mikey and Calum to pause their game. I take a sip of my water before Mikey asks, "What was that about?"
"Luke was being a little jealous because Shayla has been speaking to another guy about the song he's writing for her." Ash explains to which the two boys bob their heads in understanding.
I place my glass down before asking, "Can someone please drive me back to school? I have a listening session with Tyler for the song."
Ashton quickly jumps at the opportunity as Luke walks back into the room wearing a new set of clothes that seem tighter than before. I bite my lip slightly at how hot he looks and walk towards him as he says, "I'll take you back to school. Need to make sure little ol' Tyler knows your taken."
I smirk at how possessive he's being and peck his lips playfully as I say, "So obsessive Hemmo. You look all emo now you realize. Scowls don't work for you."
His face softens slightly as he replies with, "Just keeping an eye out for my girl is all."
I smile warmly and take his hand in my own as Ashton throws the keys to Luke and we walk out to the car which has been parked in the driveway. We clamber into the car as Luke puts the keys into the ignition and the engine rumbles to life.
He places his hand on my thigh the whole drive to the school, looking at me every so often with a large smile. When we arrive at the school, he ties his hair back into a tiny bun as he shoves his hands deep into the pockets of his leather jacket that bears the marks of colourful Rolling Stone logos. His legs are covered in dark striped pants and he's wearing a tight white tee beneath his jacket, showing off his hidden muscle as he slides his round red sunglasses up on to the top of his head.
I smile at him as he watches me get out of the car and approach him slowly. He returns my smile with a matching one of his own, as he offers out his hand for me to hold. We calmly walk to the back entry of the auditorium that leads to our music rooms, and approach Tyler's room where we find his door wide open and him lounging on the floor with his bass resting on his lap.
He looks up at us as I knock on the door politely and beams at our arrival as he says, "You finally came."
He rises from his position on the floor and rushes over to us where he politely shakes Luke's hand as well as my own, before chauffeuring us into the room.
I sit down in one of the seats he's pulled up whilst Luke leans up against the wall and bears witness to the situation as Tyler picks up his keyboard from the other side of the room and a few pieces of loose paper that he places on the music stand before him. He goes on to explain what the song is like and how he pictured it be more orchestral based rather than my usual rock.
I nod my head in understanding as Tyler begins to play the moody and emotionally powerful song. It's a lot slower than my usual music which causes me to feel a little anxious, but at least we have to perform two songs and I've already chosen the one I'm going to perform.
Thought I found a way out.
Thought I found a way out.
But you never go away.
So I guess I gotta stay now.
Oh, I hope some day I'll make it out of here.
Even if it take all night or a hundred years.
Need a place to hide, but I can't find one near.
Wanna feel alive, outside I can't fight my fear.
I feel tears prick my eyes at the heartfelt emotion that is being poured out by Tyler through his lyrics, as I sing the lines to the song whilst he plays the keyboard in the background. As we go, he instructs me through the way in which he pictured the tune to go, and how he's musically oriented the song to sound.
I intently listen and Luke even joins in at a few points and adds a few ideas to the mix as we run through the song tirelessly. Eventually we reach a late hour of the evening and I take the music from Ty before walking out with Luke as Tyler's partner Sarah walks down the hallway with her song.
We nod in acknowledgement before Luke and I walk into my room and I immediately go to pull my keyboard out of the cupboard. Luke however, stops me from doing so and tells me that I should come back to his place so I can use their grand piano, which I gladly accept.
The drive back to his place was the same as the drive to Scintilla and I'm warmly greeted once again by the boys as we walk in through the front doors
The drive back to his place was the same as the drive to Scintilla and I'm warmly greeted once again by the boys as we walk in through the front doors and straight towards a separate room near the guest bedroom I've used on the occasion.
Luke opens the door to the near empty room, excluding the exquisite ebony black piano in the centre of the room. I immediately gravitate towards it as Luke closes the door behind us and locks it shut as to ensure we aren't disturbed.
I sit down on the stool by the grand piano and lift the lid on it to reveal the ivory keys that seem to delicate to touch... But I dare lay my fingers against the pearly white surfaces and play the chords I've memorised for this song. Luke sits down on the stool beside me as he sings along with me and adds a seemingly deeper vocal line to the already melancholy sound of the song.
We spend hours playing through the song repetitively and couldn't help myself when I stopped playing all together and watched at the moonlight reflected off the ocean surface and covered Luke's face in shadow due to the room's lights not being switched on.
The last notes of the song ring through the vast space as I grab Luke's chin and force him to look at me as I press my lips against his and wait for him to respond to the spontaneous kiss. He immediately kisses in reply as he tugs me on to his lap and wraps his arms around my waist and holds me up against him.
My hands dance their way through his curls as the heat of the moment intensifies and we find ourselves lost in each other's bodies as he leads me out of this room and towards his bedroom where the night is not finished.
Love is a mystery to some, but mine has finally been solved.
And I couldn't be more sure about wanting to stay with him.
