'I lost myself to save you, you made me lose you too.'
*Amay's point of view*
It was the day before Sam's exam, I was a nervous wreck, trying to calm myself by working in the garden when one of the cars approached me and a guy got off it.
I was surprised. This was the first time I had seen anyone getting out of those creepy vehicles.
A guy sauntered towards me. He had dyed his shoulder length hair, blonde. I could tell because the roots of his hair were still black.
He walked with a lazy grin on his face and a careless gait. He didn't look like he was much older than me
"Hey Twinkie! Get in the car" He ordered.
"Excuse me?" I blinked.
"Just get in the car, if you know what is good for you."
If I was caught a bit off guard at first, now I was plain indignant.
"I am not going anywhere with you," I crossed my hands.
"What's going on? You guys stalk me for days and then you pull over and expect me to just do what you ask?" I retorted.
"Look Twinkie---" he started
"The name's Amay!" I glared at him.
The playful grin was gone and now he looked annoyed.
"You know what, I am done asking you nicely,"
"Boys!!" He called in a singsong voice and three rowdy looking men came out of the car, advancing towards me.
I instinctively took several steps back.
Who the hell were these men?
They tried to grab my hands and I made a run towards the cottage but I couldn't get very far, someone grabbed me and pulled me off the ground.
I started hyperventilating. This can't happen. They were going to kidnap me!
I tried to punch and kick them but they parried my hits easily. The blonde guy even had the nerve to laugh at me.
I thrashed around and called for dad but I must have been too far for him to hear.
Finally, two of them grabbed my hands while the third one held my legs and they carried me towards the car.
I tried to scream again but someone pressed a handkerchief on my face and this strange smell of cleaning liquid overwhelmed my senses.
The last thing I heard was the blonde guy grumbling about nasty toys before I lost consciousness.
********
I woke up on a soft bed and groaned. It felt as if I had a very short nap and my head was hurting.
I wanted to go back to sleep again but then it all came back to me. The car, the blonde guy, toys! I panicked and sat up on the bed.
I looked around the room. It was pretty bare. The wall in front of me was made of glass but I couldn't see anything past it.
There was a metallic door on the left and another door on the wall on my right.
I was about to walk off the bed when someone walked in from the metallic door on my left.
"You?" I shouted, my voice came out hoarse.
It was Arlo's father. He was dressed in those suits again and had an inscrutable look on his face.
"If you want your boyfriend to live, you will do as I say."
I blinked.
"I hope this will help in persuading you." He drawled.
He flicked a switch on and the room beyond the glass wall lit up. I saw a body slumped on a chair and my stomach lurched..
It was....No, it can't be! He is in the town preparing for his exam tomorrow.
I jumped out of the bed and banged my hands on the glass wall.
They kidnapped him too?
"What are you guys playing at? Let him out. What the hell do you want?" I swore.
"There, there. The child of a pastor knows how to swear. Now, that's something you don't see very often." He mocked.
"Let him go, you monster!" I cried.
His nostrils flared. I winced and took a step back. I don't think he was used to being yelled at.
"He has his exam tomorrow. It's his dream job. Please! It's very important for him" I pleaded.
"I can do that. I will make sure he wakes up well rested tomorrow. I will even throw in a word of recommendation about him to the higher ups, for his training but are you willing to pay the price?"
He was asking for ransom but we didn't really have any money. Dad always said comforts corrupt our soul. So, we lived pretty ascetical lives.
If there's anything I could call my own, It would be the garden and that too is on the church's property.
How could I pay the ransom?
Something must have shown on my face because he said,
"If I free him, you will have to stay with me."
"Stay with you?" I frowned.
That can't be it all. How long does he want me to stay? There must be a catch.
"How long for?" I blurted, confused.
"I don't think you fully understand my proposal. I am saying that you will have to live with me till your last breath."
The world slipped from my feet. I felt dizzy. Mrs. Clay had promised to get Samar and I married once he got his job. She had even planned to talk to my dad about it.
"But what about Samar and dad and--- marriage?" I rambled out.
"Marriage? Are you already married to him?" He growled and advanced towards me.
"No----No. I am not" I stuttered, waving my hands in panic. He caught a glimpse of my purity ring and stopped.
"Good. You can't marry anyone else. You will have to get married to me." He declared.
My heart sank. It was like being pushed off a cliff. You knew you were going to be hurt. It was only a matter of time.
This guy was powerful. If he could kidnap Samar from the student hostels, he could easily ruin him.
I turned my face away from him to look at Samar, the guy I was in love with since I have known love.
If I agreed to it, I won't be able to see him again. All our dreams, all those warm smiles. All will be lost after today.
At least, he will still be able to work on his dream job and hopefully he will find someone better than me. If it meant he would be happy....
My heart was breaking and I couldn't stand it anymore. Tears made their way on my face. I sniffed.
"I need your word that you will not hurt him after I agree to this." I demanded.
"As long as he keeps his nose out of my business and stays away from you. You have my word." He turned and nodded to his men inside.
I turned away from him and started staring at Samar. I caressed the glass where I could see him being taken out of the chair by men.
Those eyes that would always light up when they would see me, those hands that cherished my hands and those lips that would make me smile on even the worst of my days.
I wanted to see them to last my heart for the rest of my life and when they took him out to take him back to his hostels, my knees gave away and I sobbed.
