I finished with most of my homework and got a text, it was Devin. I gave him my address and he said he would be over in 10 minutes. Surprisingly, exactly 10 minutes later, I heard a knock at the door. I opened the door. "Hey Devin. Come in, I guess." I said."Thanks, I guess." He said, teasing me.
"Really?"
"Yep." He smirked.
"Who was at the door, Honey?" My mom yelled.
"A guy from school. We have to work on our Chem presentation." I yelled back.
"Keep your door open!" She said sternly.
"Mommmmm!" I whined and blushed. I peeked into her office. "Seriously!"
"Yes."
"Hello, I'm Devin. You must be Mrs.Madison. Nice to meet you, I see where Adria gets her good looks." He said, politely.
"Oh, thank you. Its just Ms.Madison, Adria's father, Adrian, died a few years back." My mom said.
"Well," I said. "We should go to work. I'm borrowing the family laptop, so Devin can use it." I was blushing from Devin calling me pretty, kinda.
"Okay, bye!" My mom said.
"Bye, mom." I said, leading Devin to my bedroom.
"You never said your Dad died." Devin said. Looking into my eyes, once we were sitting on my bed.
"It doesn't matter. I just.... I can't talk about him." My eyes were tearing up.
"Sorry, you okay?" He asked. He was a lot nicer then I thought he was.
"Yeah, its just that we haven't talked about him since his funeral." Tears escaped my eyes and slowly fell down my face.
"Its okay." Devin said. His thumb touched my face, wiping away my tears. "Wanna get started? Its not that I don't care about your feelings, its just that I don't think Mr.Shue likes me. So I want to get a good grade on this."
"Yeah." I opened the family computer and put in the password. The background was a picture of my parents and I. That was when I was when I was 12.
"Have you always been beautiful?" Devin looked at the picture.
"Don't call me that. You have a girlfriend, and we have a project to work on." I said, glaring at him.
"Just sign in to your gmail. I'll send you the slide and we can start working on it."
"Okay. I just don't really like being with Ella." He said.
"That doesn't mean I will date you." He was logged in, and I sent him the slide, from my teal macbook.
We were soon done, putting information into a slide was extremely quick.
"I'll see you tomorrow to present. Bye Adria." He said.
"Bye..." I looked at the floor. I assumed he let himself out. Once he left my room, I laid down on my bed. He is adorable! What am I thinking? I like Devin... I realised.
Tomorrow in class, it was Devin and my turn to present. I didn't tell my best friends about what Devin said last night and how I felt. Corey would just say told you so, and Ana would ask to many questions. I finished my half of the presentation, then it was Devin turn. He was almost through the whole thing. "When Adria was 12, her father died." He continued to talk but I didn't care. I was gone as soon as he said that. Tears rushed out of my eyes. Soon I heard two people behind me.
"Adria, are you okay?" Ana asked kindly. She hugged me. I then felt another pair of arms join the hug.
"Did you ask him to put that in it?" Corey asked, hugging Ana and I, both.
"Why would I?"
"Adria?" I heard Devin say.
"Go away!" I got out of my friends hug and say on the cold, linoleum floor, against the lockers.
"I'm sorry.. I j-"
"Dude, leave, Adria said she doesn't want you here." Corey said.
"No." Devin said.
"Leave! Now! Corey said.
"No!" Devin said.
I saw Ana step back towards me. Corey was the first one to swing.
