Chapter Four- A Glimpse of the Past

Next thing I know, Devin was on the floor. "What the hell, Corey!" I yelled. Standing up, pushing Corey away from Devin. Ana was checking if Devin was okay, and took him to the nurses office. "What was that!?" Again was looking at the floor.

"He wouldn't leave. He brought up your father. I felt the need to protect you." He said.

We stood in silence. I was thinking of the first time he protected me, and by the look on his face, he was too. 

It was a closer day in September, so fall time, we were 13 years old. I didn't know Corey at the time, as my father had just died so I distanced my self from everyone and everything. I was walking down an ally between a few houses, a short cut to my old house, when I noticed two shadowy figures behind me. They both grabbed my arms and tried to get me into their van. I tried screaming but no one was around. Corey was walking passed the ally  when he noticed me. "Get away from her!" Is what he screamed at them. They dropped my arms and got in their car and drove off before we could catch a glimpse of their faces or license plate. That was the start to our friendship.

"I'm not thirteen anymore." I said, snapping back to reality. "I don't need your protection." I walked back to the science room, when the bell rang. I swiftly got my backpack and phone from my locker and went home.

Around 5:00, I was sitting on my arm chair, that faced away from the door, and towards my window. I had a room in the back of the house, so I peered over our backyard. "Know I've still got a lot of fight left in me." I finished singing. I sing when I'm thinking about stuff.

"You've got a good voice." I heard a voice say. I jumped.

"How long have you been there, Devin?" I asked, blushing and looking at the floor.

"Since the first chorus." He smirked at me.

"Great... What do you want?"

"Well, I want to apologize. I didn't think you would react like that. I didn't know that Corey would react the way he did either." He said. He rubbed the back of his neck.

"Oh yea, how are you? I'm kind of mad at Corey for hitting you. He shouldn't have."

"Well, I kinda deserved it. I didn't leave you alone. Just forgive him, you guys have been friends forever."

"Okay."

"I.... I uhhh also need your help with something."

"What..." I asked cautiously.

"Can you help me break up with Kloey? Whenever I try to break up with her, she can't get it through her brain that I'm done with her."

"How am I supposed to do that?" A piece of hair fell into my face. He pushed my hair behind my ear.

"By going out with me..." He said.

"I... I can't. I just, I don't really know you that much. I've never even had a boyfriend before."
His hand dropped by his side again. "Oh... OK. I have to go. See you on Monday." He waved at me and left. I opened my phone.

A- Hey Corey
C- Adria!
C- I'm really sorry for hitting Devin
A- it's ok. I forgive you for freaking out, I'm sorry for yelling at at you
C- it's fine
A- Can I tell you something?
C- Always
A- I like.. I have feelings for Devin and he asked me out. I didn't know what to do so I turned him down.
C- you barely know him, he's dating Kloey anyway. Why would he ask you out?
A- he doesn't like her anymore. He wanted me to help him break up with her.
C- wow... wait if you like him, why'd you turn him down
A- Barely know him
C- but that was what that project was for
A- I know him better then a lot of people then
C- go out with him then you idiot
A- ok... thanks Corey ily bro♥
C- ily2♥

I had the best guy friend a girl could ever ask for. He's been a brother to me since we were 13, I may miss the old Corey, but the new Corey, is even better. I got a text from someone.

D- r u sure you won't go out with me?
A- I'll go out with you... I guess
D- Really!? 😉
A- yea, fine, I guess
D- Yay! Beautiful, nerdy Adria is going out with me!😍👓
A- don't call me a nerd
D- fine, genius
A- stopppppppp, I regret this already
D- fine. I'll stop. I dumped kloey a few hours ago. I've been waiting to dump her for awhile, but when I told her I had feelings for someone else, she got it. She's dating conner now, actually. She said she was cheating on me anyway.
A- wow!!! She's a jerk
D- ya, but I'm glad I could get away from her.. she always controlled me like I was her little puppet. I'm done being controlled
A- well I got to go to sleep. See you at school
D- Bye beautiful😍
A- stopppppppp
