After running to the lunchroom Naruto finally got to the table he and his friends occupied. Sitting down, flopped his head on the table, clearly out of breath. Sasuke followed after.
"Where were you two? Making out?" Sakura teased with a smirk. Ever since the two accidentally kissed in fifth grade, Sakura would make fun of them if they were alone together for a long time.
"Eh, shut up Sakura-chan! Teme over there dropped chemicals in Asuma's lab," Naruto began, but then Sasuke pinched him on the arm, hard.
"Only because you knocked me over while you were trying to see-," Sasuke couldn't finish his sentence. Naruto blocked his mouth and hurriedly talked.
"Then Asuma made us clean it up, but we're rivals, so we competed." Naruto lowered his hands.
"Which ended up making more of a mess,"
"But it was still fun!" Naruto said enthusiastically as he finally opened his lunch box, consisting of Cup Ramen and four dango sticks. Sasuke sighed.
"Being around you is exhausting. Don't make me fall into your schemes again, dobe." Sasuke chewed on his sushi. Sakura drooled at the sight of the delicious food. Sasuke finally pushed his last four towards the girl and Sakura gobbled down.
"You sure know Sasuke so well, Naruto. Sure you're not together?" Sai asked. Naruto and Sasuke fumed, Sakura laughing in the background.
"FOR YOUR INFORMATION, SAI, I AM STRAIGHT! I LIKE GIRLS. SHUT UP." Naruto yelled. Sasuke gave a glare in agreement. Sai looked confused.
"You sure? Sakura, why are you laughing? I'm telling the truth."
"YES!" The two hollered. Sakura fell on the floor, laughing. Sai, going by his silence, clearly decided it would be best if he stopped talking.
The four began to eat their lunch, laughing and joking the whole time. Sakura leaned her head on Sasuke's shoulder, which made Naruto look down. The two had been in a relationship for almost a year now, and it made Naruto upset, still. He stood up and walked away, leaving the table. He couldn't take it anymore.
"We shouldn't have done that, Sasuke-kun." He heard Sakura say once she thought Naruto was out of ear shot.
"He'll get over it soon enough. It's been what, a year and half? He's Naruto, for god sake!" That made Naruto even more angry. He left the lunchroom, his face twisted in anger and sadness.
It was true. Ever since third grade, he'd been in love with Sakura. When he asked her out and she declined, only to be dating Sasuke a week later, it broke his heart. He didn't fight Sasuke over it; it would've been stupid to do so. Losing his two best friends would have been even worse... but he still couldn't help how he felt. He knew the two were meant to be but he still though he had a slight chance.
"Man, I'll get Sakura soon enough..." He mumbled, staring at the ground and turning right. He decided to eat in the library. It was quiet and sullen and would help cope with his thoughts.
"Ow!" He heard someone say. He looked up and saw a girl on the ground, rubbing her head.
"Oh, I'm sorry.... Hinata?"
"O-oh, Na-Naruto-kun?" Hinata said, stuttering. Naruto raised his eyebrow and smiled. He pulled Hinata up from the ground.
"Sorry for bumping into you. I wasn't really focusing."
"I-Its o-okay." Hinata mumbled. She looked away quickly, making Naruto frown.
"Well, I best be going. See you around?" Naruto asked with a grin. Hinata nodded and hurried off.
